    Troglodyte venom
Those who have never travelled far from their parents basement may get their feelings hurt while listening to this show. If wokester listeners had the patients to listen to several episodes without getting “triggered”, they would find Johnny to be quite complimentary toward Latin people in general without blatantly ignoring the realities of life in South America.

One of my favorite podcast shows!
This expat is sarcastic, irreverent, informative and entertaining! But if you disagree, just don’t listen.

    What a waste of time.
This clown is a total joke. I wanted to hear about Expat life end he just rails about “wokness” and rappers apparently due to his snowflake white male fragility? I don’t know because I’m a white male and I don’t get my boxer briefs in a bunch like this dude.

    Insightful and current
Informative show. Wish there was less crypto shilling.

    Love to listen.
I love to listen to what he’s going to talk about. I enjoy hearing of how life is in Central America. It’s honest, gritty and good.

Best Source of Latin Expat Information
A rare find. An honest, actionable, and reliable source for expat information. I have been listening to Johnny since 2010.

    He should rename this podcast
To “I hate Mexico and poor people”. While I did learn a couple of things, like the origins of Semana Santa and their version of April Fools, he spends a LOT of time talking about his personal hatred of Mexico and his own legal issues. Sounds like he is lonely and needs someone to talk to.

    Terrible
Do not waste your time on this podcast if you're looking for helpful info on moving to a Latin American country. I really don't understand the intent of this podcast. Seems he only wants to bash these countries and the selfish gringos who want to move there (his implication, not mine). Truly awful and hateful podcast- a complete waste of my time. (April 1, 2021) Update- I decided to give this podcast another chance. Honestly it wasn't intentional, I downloaded it forgetting that I had already done so (and hated it) years ago. I got about 15 min into the most recent episode, and now it seems he's expanded his hateful rhetoric to include Biden and anyone who is actually taking the Coronavirus seriously- calling people who choose to get the vaccine "Covidiots" and advising on how to go to Mexico and get a fake vaccination card. I felt like I was listening to a right wing propoganda radio show. Wouldn't be surprised in the least if this guy gets a correspondent job with Fox News any day now, what a joke.

Dumb. Guy Hates Government So Leaves For Central America
Try and understand this weird podcast if you will. This fella hates government, hates regulations, hates paying taxes, fees, etc., and so leaves the U.S., to go live in Central America because of course, his U.S., dollar goes so much further down there. Yet, after his ideological rant leads him to do this he spends almost each podcast telling us about the problems of having to “grease palms” to get local licensing and regulatory documents for various necessities of life. Otherwise applications will linger forever, or just get lost…. He then without concern explains how one must be careful when traveling the roads outside of habituated areas because there are armed ambushes on the open roads who will pull you over like a train in the old west, to rob you of everything you have. I could go on and on but that is the general flavor of his experience - and he seems to prefer it over the U.S. He discusses in detail everything from the problem of incompetent and not up to the same standards of contractors, medicine, higher education, etc., as in the U.S.. He will discuss the necessity of having to constantly hire a bi-lingual Attorney who is familiar with the system and will “grease palms”, all along the way with the cash, yes cash you provide him in advance for that purpose. - Do you want to build a house because it’s so much cheaper here? Sure, can do! Just don’t forget to provide the bribery money to move your applications through the system. - Do you want to ensure that the contractor you hire will have his employee’s show up each day to do the job? Make sure you grease his palm a bit before hand. - Do you want to be sure they actually finish the job or worse, come back to repair the shoddy work that they did in the first place? Make sure you … . . . well, you get the point by now. And so it goes on and on. This guy leaves the U.S., which is ahead of the game on so many levels because he has an ideological hatred of government. He would rather pay unknown amounts in bribe money to criminals, elected officials, and inept public workers, and god knows who else, rather than pay for actual licensing and regulatory fees that would help to avoid the problems he encounters continually in Central America in the first place. I’ve only hit the tip of this crazy little ice burg, but if you are one of those nutty conservative uber right wing people who hate government of any kind, don’t mind living as if it’s the wild wild west a century and half ago then have at it. This podcast is right up your alley. I must have listened to the first year and a half of available podcasts before I caught on to the politics of this guy, as he was not so forthcoming until then. But, boy if this is the kind of life these people want, they should just find an island and go there. I can guarantee they will either all be sick/dying or dead within five years time or running back to America to take advantage of our advanced. . . everything. I just hope it doesn’t turn into one big game of “King of the Mountain”, wherever they end up. But then, who cares anyway?

    I will listen
If you like what is going on in the US why would you listen. Progressive or not. Great info. Let the haters find something else to listen to. Johnny keep expressing your opinion. I will keep listening.

Why all the negative crybaby snowflake reviews
I just read through the reviews and couldn’t believe all the whiners. I’ve listened to the podcast for at least 4 years and have been to the seminar. Clearly this podcast is not for everyone. Move along. For those of us who won’t melt and want useful information keep listening and get your plan B going. I’d be there already if I didn’t have a ball and chain keeping me in the states.

    Snowflakes beware
Very informative and entertaining. I look forward to it twice per week. But not PC at all. If you are easily offended by uncensored free speech, this podcast is not for you.

    Embarrassing expats
Horrendous. Came for information and left with a earful of racism. I hope you consider returning to the US to defend your rapey, treasonous, slave owning statues that you love so much. I prefer to learn my history from books and listening to the indigenous, gracias.

    Used to be informative
I was willing to put up with all of ragging on Latinos and millennials when it was outweighed by actionable, practical advice for living in Latin America. The only interesting thing Johnny has had to say in the past year or so is how to set up a home photovoltaic system, which is advice that I'm still years away from being able to make use of. I'm unsubscribing, but I'll be sure to check back in later in the year to see if things have improved or if Johnny has gone full tilt QAnoner.

    Anti-Progressive Propaganda
We were excited to listen to a progressive expat podcast since we lived in Latin America for a year and can’t wait to go back. I am beyond confused how this got labeled “progressive.” He abuses anyone who doesn’t meet his exacting standards without addressing systemic issues. 375 was heavily about ‘obese anchor babies’ who are a ‘negative’ to society. I can’t even begin to describe how abhorrent he is. Even his ad for some camera security had racist overtones. The cameras are made by the “Chineeeeeese, like em or not…” The show before that he “read” a letter “from a fan” rambling on about snowflakes and socialists and how Bernie and everyone wants government takeover of all the private businesses, and there was ZERO commentary or discussion about the content. It was read as if fact. I feel tricked into listening to this because it was part of the “progressive radio network.” Sadly this person is a judgy, hostile, cold, selfish, and self-serving American who makes all travelers and expats look bad. How the hell did his show get the label of progressive? He sounds like the worst of the worst conservative talk show hosts you can imagine!!

    Horrendous
Checked out this podcast hoping for some light hearted yet helpful information about Latin America. Was quickly bombarded by anti Bernie Sanders talk and also anti Christian talk. I didn’t find any of this funny, helpful or the least bit entertaining. Couldn’t click off fast enough.

    Completely Wrong
So much of the information shared in the podcast is factually inaccurate and greatly offensive. I was excited to find this podcast because I’m considering moving to Latin America, but this podcast was a disappointment.

Two shows a week isn’t enough.
I drive 10 hours a day, and listen to a lot of podcasts. This is my favorite. Full of good information and presented in a funny, sometimes snarky kinda way. Johnny is the best.

    Great podcast.
Great podcast. The jokes are pretty funny especially the snow flake reviews that can’t stand the man.

    Circling the drain...
I've listened to Johnny Mueller for several years, and he is really falling apart. The podcast now mostly serves as a platform for his angry and stunningly ignorant political rants, as he is clearly consumed with rage and politics obsessed. He has an amusing delivery, but his laughter at his own lame jokes, which are then followed by punchline explanations, are cringeworthy. Saddest of all is that he claims to read "emails from listeners" on the air, but they are so obviously written by Johnny himself, full of blustering flattery, and of course constant injections of his gradeschool faux-libertarian ideology.

    Great Podcast
This is a very informative podcast filled with lots of useful information. Whether you’re planning a move to Latin America or just plan to visit a Latin American country, you need to listen to this podcast. It presents many useful tidbits of information without being boring.

Obviously a Trump supporter who lives abroad
John hates the Obamas and Clintons and progressives, so why is he on the Progressive Network? He might have some good info here but it's ruined by his hateful rants.
  • Karileed
    Informative
Great podcast that's filled with tips and interesting information on living in Latin America. Johnny is down to earth and entertaining. Can’t wait for the next episode!

    Prejudiced
One of the most prejudiced podcats I haver listened.
  • ingrid_t
    Always entertaining and informative
Sometimes I cringe a little at how non-PC this is (I wouldn’t repeat some of his opinions to my Latin friends) but it never fails to be entertaining and informative. It has gotten me through lots of long bus rides in South America. I’m sure the other people on the bus were wondering what the heck I was chuckling at!
  • Califonia flying
    Not in Kansas anymore
Light hearted and often quirky tell it like it is view of life South of the border which as host Jon Mueller says - the good, the bad and ugly, all delivered in single espisode.

A look at life off the Grengo Trail!
I stumbled upon the Expat Files a month or so ago and wound up binge listing (thank goodness for long commutes!) Now I look forward to each exposode (I mean episode...) Johnny's down to earth, ireverent style of presenting alternate-info is both entertaining and a refresing change from some of other sources you run across while researching offshore options. Keep up the good work Johnny! I hope to get a chance to meet in person before too long. You seem like a man after my own heart!
  • Standing Desk
Great podcast if you want to be a short or long term expat
I have been listening to this podcast for years and it never get dull. Of course Jonny goes off on tangents and likes to plug his expat seminars, but that's all a part of what this podcast is all about.
  • Debate is fun.
    Better than before
The podcast was criticized more in its early days as having a condescending attitude towards Latinos and their culture as compared to life in the USA. Those criticisms were legitimate. I always believed Johnny was sincere in relating his experiences to his listeners and overlooked his attitude and podcasting style to get his legitimate information for wannabe expats. I’m happy to report the information is still legitimately helpful but the coy and bombastic remarks have all but vanished. Thanks for making the podcast better than before by emphasizing what is truly important and doing it in a way respectful to your host country and their citizens.

    Highly Recommended!
Fantastic podcast. Each episode is packed with great info, where the host speaks briskly and with a great sense of humor. You'll want more after each episode. Highly recommended, even for non-expats like myself!

    100% Accurate
I own a business in San Juan del Sur Nicaragua, everything Johnny talks about is spot on! I would highly recommend this podcast to anyone who is considering (or even thought of) moving to Latin America. I recently went to his seminar in Guatemala and it was worth every penny. Listen, and take it to heart.
  • FootieAA
Pure 5 star information on developing world living, told with style.
You can replace Latin America for almost any African country, and this podcast would be just as accurate.

    Educational
This show is an eye opener, entertaining, and I've learned a lot about Latinos everywhere. I work in sales, live in Florida and I now have a better understanding of the Latinos that I have met here. A lot of the traits that John speaks about are obviously a part of them no matter where they go. Anyway, great show. Keep it up, John. Dave Author of Wanted Reward 25 cents

    Real, honest, useful advice
John does not hold back. He tells you exactly what you need to know when considering a Latin American move. I hope he keeps it up for a long time. Thanks!

finally, a hot knife through the b.s.
i have been looking for a decent evaul of moving south for 15 years now. first costa rica, now panama. so far john does the best job. IL is sooo full of shady ads and bland reporting that i will bet those reports come from somewhere in NYC or elsewhere in the U.S. thanks for saving time from learning the hard way! i have officially re- calibrated my focus. and as for "wordless", well i am painting an image in mind of what she is like. definately from the west coast, probably the bay area. in college or within two years of graduation. gets good little grades, kind of a teachers pet. annoys everybody but gets away with stuff cause she is cute. definately short (short girls complex). and finally, thinks open sandles like berkenstauks should match colors with her socks. spot on right?

    Love the podcast
I disagree with the post before mine. This podcast is excellent and I would highly recommend it. Mr. Muller tells it like it is. This podcast is definatelly not politically correct and that is one of the things that make it great. If you want a sugar coated look at living in Latin America you need to look elsewhere. I look forward to every new podcast.

Straight Forward, Non PC View of Latin America
John Mueller does an excellent job of providing us with a view of an ex-pat living life in Latin America. It's an informative, relaxed and often humorous description of the many cultural aspects of living in countries that are much different from our very own. I appreciate his straight forward, non-pc view of dealing with so many issues that are easy to tackle here in the USA. Keep up the great work John!
