Madison654Gone miss this one like frThis show every time it get canceled it break my heart fr, this is one of the best podcasts for the love of flim the love of wanting to know more, the pure happiness and curiosity of wanting more out of culture and flim this really did it for me, i do miss jareds commentary like anybody else its just sad… I hope one day they come together more organized and just bring back the podcast in its entirety and get it together cause this podcast can be very lighting in a bottle 🙏🏾❤️ just know this will always be my favorite podcasts thats ever been done
-
TunaFishtooVery scattered, unorganized, blandThe return of this show was welcomed, but the serious lack of preparation week after week is frustrating. Each Friday you start listening and hope they came with at least one page of notes. Instead just improvisational have baked takes on movies that are just barely worth publishing on the feed.

stoutbrA welcome return! So glad they’re back! The place to be for intellectual film criticism that’s engaging and anything but stuffy. The I Saw the TV Glow and Civil War eps are terrific.

Blank the blanksterThanksgiving movies and Covid? Why..?I was so excited to see one of my favorite podcasts come back this year! I used to listen to this pod every new release of a episode when it first was out. The crew is definitely well versed in there knowledge of film. However, after coming back to the show after discovering it came back, I noticed they were way more prone to bring up political and social present day topics. Don’t get me wrong though I totally understand comparing the present day political comparing when reviewing a film. I don’t agree with though, comparing a completely unrelated topic to the films you are talking about. There is no reason there should be a 5 minute conversation about the outcomes covid 19 had on watching thanksgiving movies or how we interpret them. Keep it much more brief please.

Maxx the WellLove this show BUT….Please mix the audio better. Even if everyone is remote, it shouldn’t sound like it. PLEASE but a little more towards audio

MoabFlapjackIt’s Back!!Heck yeah! Couldn’t believe when the show was over. So glad it’s been resurrected. Excited about the new format. I’ve listened to every episode at least three times and still find interesting new things to think about. Can’t wait to keep learning the meaning of movies!
-
pataphysicianRedactedReconsidered my initial opinion and decided to cut to the chase… aside from one or two quibbles I indulged in before, it’s time to edit the earlier review and simply state that this is a well thought-out film podcast. It’s certainly in the top 5% of the many others out there. Thanks for your patience guys.
-
JKapurMissedI’m disappointed this podcast was canceled. Such great perspectives with fun hosts. There’s nothing quite like it.
-
communitynewspodcastLoved this showToo bad it's over. All I can say is listen to my other favorite podcast "Community News with Paul and Sasha" to fill the time and make you laugh.
-
sparky.txShow me the meannessI have heard several episodes and the best ones are the show where there is some disagreement between the reviewers. The team sounds well read but usually fail to temper their gushing for their favorite movies. These shows are too full of superlatives and short on meaning.

Tatum!!!!! <3Please do Event Horizon (1997)My favorite podcast!!!! Please do Event Horizon :( love y’all

L ephteeMy Comment Was in the Last EpisodeTo paraphrase the final episode: a movie is great when it accomplishes what it sets out to do. What I would then ask is, “what is a piece of media that transcends what it set out to do?” I started listening to this podcast at that sweet spot in college, when you’re at the intersection of discovering/accepting who you are and realizing how important using your brain is. Ryan’s humorous, common-sense takes contrasting with Austin’s reality-melting lectures felt like the perfect representation of my own duality. I’ve gone on to accomplish more than I ever thought I was capable of, and you two made great role models of tenacious thoughtfulness and full-hearted honesty. If movies are a reflection of real life, then the SMTM crew have certainly stared reality in the face and come away with more than they were given. And that is art- contributing to the reality we have come to be comfortable with in a way that changes that reality forever, just by making an honest impact on the dialogue. I said something to this effect in my comment in the final episode, albeit much more succinctly in retrospect. I had no idea that the stream I was posting a comment on would become the final episode. I just wanted to give thanks. The fact that my name and, moreso, my words to you all are recorded on of one of my favorite, if not favorite, podcasts I’ve ever listened to is an honor, sincerely. There’s much more I feel like I want to say, but, like this podcast, things have to end. And that feeling of them ending too soon, of wanting more, of wanting to be more, well, that’s probably love now, isn’t it. Thank you again and always. Much love, Davis

Mattd656What the heckI just find this show then they end it? Boom three stars, despite it being amazing
-
celinecwcLOVE the showBeen a listener for some years now, admittedly y’all (Austin) got me into Lacan psychoanalysis and would love if y’all could discuss Titane (2021)
-
Sandy Jones! The only podcast I re-listen to episodes ofI love these guys and their takes are always really interesting to listen to and have taught me a lot about philosophy and critical thinking in a very entertaining way. The only podcast I’ll go back to and re-listen months later to try and get more out of it, almost like the movies themselves!

80'sVillagerKeriA Brian Di Palma film “Keri” starring Jared Bauer, Keri Smith & Jordan Peterson. A strange young woman’s lurch to the Alt Right culminates in 2 bizarre podcasts with media mogul hiding in Finland.

BeckybbbMind blown. Masterful film analysis. 🤯🎬Finally watched Eyes Wide Shut and was left knowing there was a lot of symbolism & themes that I didn’t pick up on. Luckily, I found Wisecrack on YouTube. Mind blown! 🤯 And then I needed more of a deep dive. Enter this podcast. Massive fan! 👏 Spent much of the weekend watching their videos and listening to their podcast. Thanks for sharing your film expertise and analysis so generously. 🥰
-
BakerhunterMore diversity please!I love the conversations you all have around film and philosophy, they’re always interesting, but there is a serious void of diversity in your guests. Other perspectives would enhance this podcast exponentially!
-
vkmrtGreat except maybe for one person.I like this show, I generally do. However, if you know you’re a movie podcast, why wouldn’t you bother to do a little research prior to the movie you’re discussing. I think everyone should pull their weight especially if you’re a co-host. And it’s totally ok to not like a movie but at least have the research to back up your opinion. It would just make the discussion that much more well executed. When I listen to some of the things a particular host says, it just makes me cringe. This podcasts could be really great.
-
MoonRider416A good film analysis podcast but lacks diversity entirelyAustin to a large degree carries the show by being the most researched and involved in the philosophical nuances of the film at hand. But there is a lack of representation ranging from race to sexuality and most glaringly gender. A more balanced version of this podcast would have more women, people of color and queer speakers who are thoughtful and qualified about whatever film is to be discussed. A film dictated by straight white men just reads as less interesting and tone deaf in 2021. Also, maybe in opposition to my point but really affirming another, consider rotating Greg out of the show. Although its refreshing to have the perspective of a black man his points are lazily considered and lack real thoughtfulness. His misogyny even in its subtleties bleed into the conversation in a way that feels way out of place (example: episode Incredibles 2) His passing joke about liking black women off screen for example is disappointing. To sum this up I enjoy the show for what it’s trying to achieve, looking at film from a philosophical lens to see how the medium informs everyday society, but to be more conscious of who has a seat at the table and making sure the underrepresented voices you do invite on are qualified and researched.
-
mianuddinMy favorite film podcastGreat film discussion often incorporating philosophy
-
JudahbabyBest movie review podcast in the game!Love the chemistry of these guys sharing the floor with each other to bask in the love of film analysis enjoying cinema as art.

$;$;$:77889$4hjdjhu((/1387Exactly the type of content that is neededI recently discovered this podcast and have been churning through episodes. I’ve also watched things (Ex: Ad Astra) with the motivation of being able to watch the Show Me the Meaning Podcast after I finish the movie. This podcast is great because there is actual respectful discussion between panel members who are intelligent and informed about cinema. I also appreciate the moderation of discussion that keeps conversation on the movie.
-
SixaolaDiscovered the podcast during the pandemicI have been a fan if wisecrack videos for a long time, but never really got into podcasts before 2021. This podcast is way more interesting that one can imagine. I love the ideas presented and the points of view. Specially enjoy Austin's perspective. Makes you see at movies in a different light.
-
marked for lifeReallyI like most of the discussion on the movies on here with one exception,,,. They have to remind us that they are horrible white guys that are full of guilt over god knows what??
-
Nicole RousculpGreat podcast!Specifically, this is my favorite podcast to date. I love hearing all the different analyses and what everyone took away from each movie. Hearing what other people thought or experienced on the same thing is always an enjoyable thing to listen along. They are congenial with the wide range of genres of movies they cover. Thank you for making such a great podcast!
-
MilohalbShining or 237?This podcast was not an analysis of the Shining, but a critique of Room 237. (Yeah, i haven’t seen your faces either and don’t know your day jobs.) Not a very sophisticated analysis.
-
Mark from RhinebeckGreat gem of a PodThese casters possess the knack so many others lack: they can have an entertaining and engrossing conversation WITHOUT stepping on each other and derailing the discussion with irritating competitive quips to see who can be the most clever and quirky. Even when they disagree they allow each other to convey an opinion without deteriorating into the noisy banter of a morning talk show. Their passion and exuberance is a pleasure for my aging boomer mind. And, in response to their query as to whether the movie going audience in 1980 might have been more open to The Fog’s meandering mood? My answer would be a resounding “No!” It was a drag and a downer then, as well. Perhaps they can consider a recent discovery: “Born a Champion,” all the corn, wit, and glory of Rocky. Or 1966’s The Sand Pebbles, so ahead of it’s time, and, I fear, unknown to modern moviegoers.
-
ChelindseyReally enjoy it!I just found this podcast because I was looking for one that talked about movies, their meanings, themes, filming techniques and more and I found it! I find film super interesting and I enjoy listening to what the members of this podcast have to say about films.
-
Joel H.Digging DeeperSMtM is a great show that goes beyond the topic of conversation. It goes beyond the typical "reaction" podcast. The crew delivers excellent philosophical nuggets that truly make you think on a deeper level. I miss hearing Jared's voice, but Austin has done an amazing job at hosting in his stead. I should have written this review long ago, but when I cried while listening to them talk about Soul, I had to take action. Thank you, guys.
-
The MetalMilitiaWithout Jared, this show isn’t the sameThe old crew of Ryan, Austin, and Jared had a report with each other and a truly interesting dynamic that just worked. Now that Jared is gone, that whole style and flow that I loved so much about the podcast is gone. It’s still a much better deep below the surface look into popular films, but it, much like all of wisecrack is suffering without Jared’s presence.
-
(whats going on?)WritersEvery writer interested in film should listen to this, but beware spoilers.
-
BigD_FzLove this !The screen play writing class I never took. I love this podcast !
-
ShrekLoverSixtyNineGenerally goodI like the discussion most of the time, until Ryan opens his mouth and I feel like I’m losing brain cells by the second.
-
saphira35Amazing except one personI love wisecrack and it’s associated programs and podcasts but my god never have Amanda voice anything. If I had a nickel for every “like” with upward inflection she says I wound be Scrooge Mcduck diving into a pool. Holy wow she is awful, what is interesting is her insight and notes are quite intriguing it’s just her voice and tone are soul crushing. She would be a great writer but not with that voice. Keep doing amazing work otherwise.
-
Willio The Movie LoverAmazing!I use Spotify to listen to their podcast, but I love it so much I downloaded Apple podcasts just to give it a good rating.
-
mlc9317One of the better film podcastsEpisodes are hit or miss, with more hits than misses, and the best ones are excellent. Also, I love the core group of guys, but the episodes with a female co-host are typically better.
-
D.M. WrightGreat podcast!Long time viewer of their Youtube series, really getting into their podcast channels. Great work!
-
Brian HahnFun Analysis From The Wisecrack GangI find myself both agreeing and disagreeing with takes from the hosts, which is why I really enjoy this podcast. The variance of perspectives from each of the hosts make it fun and engaging. They all have a reverence for cinema and film, but it doesn’t go full snob. I’m motoring through the back catalog with a fervor.
-
quinn721Best Film PodcastThis is my favorite podcast of all time! I’ve been listening for about two years and I haven’t found another film podcast I like as much as this one. The Wisecrack guys are engaging, interesting, funny, and philosophical, taking every movie they discuss seriously whether it’s Inception or The Incredibles. They do so much research and put serious thought into what they discuss, but it’s still not too heavy. Love this podcast!
-
AmyKugaliMcWilliamsSo metaAbsolutely love this podcast and it's a bummer it took me so long to discover it! Love hearing the different thoughts about so many of my favorite movies. It's the type of great discussion we used to have in film class at college that I miss so much.
-
HebrewishWorst commercial breaksTotally random ads come in at a loud volume. I’ll change my review when they take this out
-
Taybear 201518Awesome, thought provoking podcast.I can’t say enough about how much I’ve come to enjoy this podcast. I started with merely enjoying the videos on the Wisecrack YouTube channel, then quickly went through multiple videos and heard them plug their podcast and thought I would try it out. I’ve gone through about 20 episodes thus far and I thoroughly enjoy listening their discussions on meaning, symbolism, technique and in general- just hearing their banter. Great podcast with great content.
-
HelenTINGTINGfantastic!!!!!!!this show expands my mind with interesting discussions. loving listening to the crew. insightful and delightful.
-
Steven2480Engaging and Friendly Movie TalkThis has quickly become a favorite podcast to listen to while I work. And clean. And cook. And walk. And shop. Everyone is respectful, friendly, smart, and funny. This is one of the best movie criticism podcasts out there, save only for Half In The Bag.
-
JCubKCLoveGreat podcast. I love everything about it except you guys should be releasing new episodes every week instead of only 1 or 2 per month:(
-
phillyED6262Show Me the Meaning means a lot to meWhat can I say? Jared, Alec, Austin, Ryan, Michael, Helen and the entire Wisecrack crew are absolutely fantastic! I really enjoy listening to you all discuss film, philosophy, and pop culture. You‘re all incredibly knowledgeable and always make me think a bit deeper on life and cinema. It’s truly a joy listening to each of your perspectives, and I appreciate how you point out key details a pleb like me would miss otherwise. Your podcasts give me a greater appreciation and understanding of film and philosophy, so I feel especially grateful to you for that. My only suggestion is to maybe fix the audio. Sometimes I have a hard time hearing those who speak on the softer side. And I’ve seen it mentioned before, but the commercials are a bit on the intrusive side. They usually pop up right in the middle of whoever is speaking and at double the volume of the show. Idk how much control you have over the placement of the ads but I think many would appreciate them at a lower volume. Anyway, you guys are awesome and I hope you’re all proud of what you do! Keep up the excellent work!
