    Love it
I’ve been listening to this podcast for the last year or so. As a heavy equipment operator, I have quite a bit of time to listen to these shows. Unfortunately, I just got caught up! Matt tells awesome stories that are entertaining and well researched. I’ve learned so much about different explorers that I had never heard of. And, of course, so has my wife and kids. Thank you, Matt!

    Best podcast ever!
Seriously, this is my favorite podcast. Matt is an amazing storyteller, excellent researcher and a much appreciated sense of humor! Definitely worth a listen if you haven’t yet.

    Amazing! My Favorite Podcast
I've learned so much from this podcast, and I'm so sad that I'm all caught up on episodes. History through the lens of exploration is fascinating and helps explain how the world became what it is today. The host is a thoughtful and skilled historian, and his voice/cadence is perfect. Especially loved the eps about Mungo Park, Cabeza de Vaca, Christopher Columbus, Shackleton, Nansen, Coronado, Belgica, and von Humboldt.

    Show used to be good
Actually used to be really good! Then ads. Then fast talking. Then ten episodes of dumb dudes. Lost the point and lost a listener.

    Amundsen series
Listened to all 10 parts with eager attention to every word. Well done!

Shackleton series - favorite podcast ever
After listening to this series, I am enthralled with all things explorers. I knew a little about Shackleton, but this series opened my eyes to so many more layers to his story. I currently listen to these episodes while training for a marathon. It’s a great way to push yourself as you hear about some of the strongest and more courageous folks in history. Thank you!

    Sorry, good show though
I love the show, but I am going to quit following. I do not subscibe and there is no way to take those shows out of my feed. I do not fault anyone I just do not want to deal with the hassle of marking as played. Thanks for the show.

    My New Favorite Podcast
I started listening to this podcast while researching Lewis & Clark and quickly became hooked. I’ve since listened to the 11 part epic tale of Ernest Shackleton and just started the Daniel Boone episodes. Highly recommend for any history or adventure enthusiast!

    Context!
I really like the historical podcast and you really put things in perspective for our modern ears! You made correction to Boone actually being a slave owner. I was disappointed as well to hear that news, however more context on what could have surrounded this development would be helpful. He had helped escaped slaves early on. What changed in his faith? How did his move from Ky could have changed?

    Fascinating
So much can be learned from how worlds meet. I’ve spent hours on long car rides listening to the balanced delivery of the tales of so many explorers. Series suggestion: David Livingstone.

Love it, exploration is so interesting and colorful, and Matt is great

This podcast would be great if the host stopped chewing his gum throughout.

    Podcast that stays on task
I started listening to this podcast bc I’m fascinated by Spanish conquistadores. I wanted to stick to that subject but I found that other podcasts didn’t offer a quality experience, even if it was a subject I loved. So I came back to this podcast and listened to any and every subject, even if it wasn’t initially an interesting subject to me at the time. He stays on task and presents available source material fairly. I’d rather listen to Matt breen talk about things I don’t find interesting, than other terrible podcasts that butcher subjects I find intriguing. Sure, the content is incredible, but Matt breen presents each experience in a fair and reasonable manner. He really cultivates trust between the listeners and himself, which builds a lot of trust.
  • MT Diddy
    Love the show!
I’ve listened to almost all the episodes. Suggestion for a topic: Francisco Pizarro! Maybe that’s in the works already, but think he’s obviously worth the dive into

Daniel Boone was a slave holder.
Matt, you apologize profusely for not discovering that Daniel Boone was a slave holder in the earlier episodes, and admit that it really lowers your opinion of him now that you know about it, but you never apologize for not mentioning that the Shawnee Indians were also slave holders, as were many Native tribes that we know of in those days. It is irrefutable that Natives throughout the Americas captured other Natives as slaves, they also captured whites, and even increased their holdings of African-American slaves in the 1800’s. While sanctioned slavery ended in the United States after the Civil War, native tribes were not bound to the new laws and some undoubtedly held slaves for many more years. Slavery is NEVER okay in ANY culture, so why do we, as historians, act as though it is unforgivable for some, but take a forgive and forget attitude with others? I just shook my head when I read that article about the statue of the Civil War general that was torn down because he represented a culture of slavery, and then discovered that they planned to replace it with a statue of Pocahontas.

    Fabulous podcast!
I’ve been enjoying this podcast so much since discovering it about a week ago. It’s so interesting, and the resources on the podcast website – such as maps – really round out the learning experience!

    Great podcast
This podcast brings to life the stories of these historic explorers. I listen while on my run and escape into their world. Thank you for this experience !

    One of my favorite podcasts
I look forward to an episode every week. Fantastic host and compelling storytelling. When I run out of new episodes to listen to, I just re-listen to older ones — this is the only podcast I do this with.

    Excellent host
Great podcast, especially enjoy the long series. Patiently waiting for a series on the Greely expedition
  • Frisco Danny
    Fascinating show!
Love hearing stories of these people who bravely explored the world; in the cases of Humboldt and Stark their motives were simply to enlighten, not to exploit. Very cool.

    EXCELLENT!!!
Ok these are great! The host has a cadence/humor/speaking style very similar to Mike Duncan of History of Rome. Great info, full of interesting and accurate facts. Well researched and nicely presented. The info isn't overwhelming or stale. A bit of humor thrown in adds to the story. Going through the entire catalog now. Keep them coming.

    A New Favorite
What a wonderful podcast. I find the host’s voice extremely soothing. This podcast is a wonderful escape from the news when you can’t handle any more of that. The stories are presented thoughtfully and the host explains carefully areas where things may be misrepresented by the conquerors or historical record. I find myself adding more and more of this podcast’s episodes to my never ending “next up “ stack
  • Bonster222
    just enough info
it’s in depth, but not too much your scripts are well thought out and written. Keep up the good work!

  • Alexander Vasyuk
One of the best on the subject
A combination of great storytelling and narration makes this podcast one of the best when it comes to the topic. After finishing the entire thing, I tried searching for the next best thing, but the next best thing turned out to be to start listening to this podcast for the second time from the start. Keep up the great work, Matt!

    Exploring history
I have been listening to a lot of great history podcasts and I usually take a long time to leave a review, but I’m really excited about this podcast. It is informative and entertaining and he does a great job with each episode. The sound quality is one of the best I’ve experienced, which is a definite plus. Thank you for this great voyage of discovery of the great explorers of history.

Shackleton episodes are the best ever!
I have listed to almost all the Explorer’s Podcast episodes at this point. I left all the polar and mountian climbing episodes to the end because I thought I wouldn’t enjoy them as much. Was I wrong! The Shackleton episodes are the best! The Endurance Expedition was very exciting, very suspenseful. I couldn’t wait to continue from one episode to the next.

    Love it!
This is my new favorite podcast! So many of these stories should be miniseries or tv shows and movies. The burk and wills story is amazing
  • WD in Dallas
    So well done
Every episode keeps you on the edge of your seat. You live through the journeys of great explorers as you listen to one of the best narrator in the podcast world. Highly suggest this for everyone, especially young men that need to get off their video games and learn about history and the men that made it.
  • Jasscharp
    Great Podcast
I really enjoy this podcast. The subjects are interesting and the host speaks well with a nice pace. I’ve listened to all the episodes and find myself repeating them!
  • sarahtartaria
    Bingeworthy history
I needed a break from true crime and chose this randomly. I had little to no interest in the topic but thought it wouldn’t hurt to learn a little history. I then proceeded to binge the Magellan series. The storytelling is amazing and what an adventure! I love this podcast and am hooked. Thank you for your research and for putting this together. What a wild world back then. And today we whine if we have to walk a mile. We have no idea what our ancestors went through so we could leave a review on a podcast.
  • Pissnvineger
    Phenomenal
Beautifully crafted and easy to listen to. My new favorite history pod thank you so much.
  • tenderweave
    Low quality production
Seems like he uses his AirPods to record these episodes. Very poor quality microphone. On top of that if you try to use this podcast to fall asleep it won’t work because the episodes are short and each one starts with very loud intros and animations. Lastly, extremely monotonous delivery. High potential but disappointing execution.
  • ZachUWS
    Amazing
The best history pod cast out there. Fun, entertaining and educational. Can’t wait for the next release.
