Finding Drago | Finding Desperado

206

Finding Drago and Finding Desperado is an investigative mystery podcast, hosted by comedians and Australia’s premier (and only) pop culture detectives — Alexei Toliopoulos and Cameron James. Series 1, Finding Drago. A cryptic line on Rocky IV’s Wikipedia page mentions a “final masterpiece” from Todd Noy about Ivan Drago, the movie’s bad guy. Alexei Toliopoulos asks why the hell would anyone write an entire novel about the bad guy from Rocky IV? Series 2, Finding Desperado. Alexei and Cameron uncover a bizarre Guinness World Record from 2005. A record held by an elusive European aristocrat. A record that they believe to be fake.

    Incredibly captivating!!
I am not a Rocky fan, nor am I particularly interested in old movies. I only started listening on a recommendation, but thank god I did. Both stories were utterly fantastic!!!! So engaging and captivating, the editing especially draws you in and keeps you coming back. I have told everyone I know about this podcast. Honestly, it feels like a celebration of humanity. The hosts never make fun of the people involved in these crazy stories beyond some gentle ribbing, they are just so excited to learn more and get to the person behind it all. In the case of the first season, they meet a truly wonderful individual! I’m so happy this podcast exists in the world. I really hope they make more seasons, I’ve got to hear more!!! Much love guys <3

How do you even describe it?
Alexei and Cameron bring the perfect sweet optimism, loving friendship, and journalistic integrity to an investigation so important, so world-quaking, I can't believe it didn't earn a pulitzer. I wish there were more episodes in each season. And more seasons! Are there no more mysteries in the world, A & C???

Just binged Finding Drago (thanks Spooko!). Thank God I’ve been off work for the last couple days since I stayed up way late each night to listen to “just one more episode!” Just started Finding Desperado and am already hooked again.

    Inspiring and intriguing
The story telling is fun and draws you in brining an in-depth investigation with the cultural significance of finding out Mugatu invented the piano key necktie.

    Finding Myself
The pandemic had taken its toll. Not just on the nation, but also my soul. Even with the collective sigh of relief felt by the world upon the election of a new leader, I needed to collect myself and start anew. I found my way to the coast. My lungs drank in the cold, salty air with greed. I was beginning to heal. I stood motionless in the firm, packed sand for hours, jealous of the thieving tides, welcoming the chance to ebb and flow with the water. Suddenly I felt a presence to my left - a man. A man who had lived enough life for three men. He wasn't kind on the eyes, you may have called him a vagrant. But after that auspicious day on the shore, I call him a gift. And that's what he had for me: a gift. He handed me a book. It could have been centuries old from how worn it was, but I would soon find out it was only a few decades old. All he said to me was, "I've been where you are, and this is what brought me home." I took it from his gnarled hands. The cover read "Drago: On Mountains We Stand by Todd Noy." Before I could say anything, he was already lumbering away, heading south along the sea line. I started reading and was quickly enveloped in such raw emotional response that I collapsed to the ground. Finally, in this cold, sandy embrace of the Earth, I found my own sigh of relief. The world made sense again. But who was that man? Was it Todd Noy himself? Another traveled soul like me? I can't say. But I can say this book saved me. Just like Drago, I survived the final count and refused to go down on the mat.

Captivating. Who cares about Trump and Biden?
Finding this director is more important to me than this election. Find him, or her.

    Hilarious and totally unique
I’m new at listening to podcasts, I love listening to them while I get chores done now, so when I first wanted to find something to listen to I asked my friend for a recommendation, and this was her top pick. She was totally right, this podcast is wonderful and the only thing I didn’t like about it is that it seems to be alone in it’s class, I can’t find anything else like it! I’m about to listen through it again now for a second time.

I stayed up through the night to finish this podcast, it’s so captivating. I recommend to everyone, not just those who’ve seen Rocky 4.

    Podcast changed my life
This podcast was given to me on an mps player by a random stranger on a beach in south America. Never have I heard anything so profund and hearfelt as this personal journey. At the end of the day we are all Tod Noy.

    I FEEL CHERISHED
Honestly starts off dorky, but seriously one of the most entertaining series of storytelling I've listened to on a long time. Funny, mysterious and completely captivating, with a satisfying sending in my humble opinion.

    Listened in one sitting, outstanding
    Great!
  • JoshL8686
    Great
I took the Weekly Planet’s word for it and listened to all of this podcast. Never imagined that a mystery podcast about finding someone who wrote and published a Rocky fanfiction could be so gripping and have so many bizarre twists and turns. And the best part is, they are working for the Australian equivalent of PBS, so the Australian government is the one funding this search for a Rocky fanfiction author
  • Ffshzttsge
    Very fun!
I bought the book because of this, great podcast. I found this hilarious, and I finished it in one sitting!

    Best mini series out there
This podcast is amazing! I’m so sad it’s only 7 episodes but it is the funniest, most gripping podcast I have heard. You guys should be real proud of how great this podcast is. Hope to see more like this in the future from you two.
