Encala : Book 3 of the Heku Series

Encala, Book 3 in the Heku Series, finds Emily and Chevalier settled into the palace and life as one of the ruling heads of the Equites begins. They quickly intertwine themselves closely with the city outside of Council City, the home of the Equites.Emily and Allen head to New Mexico to attend the wedding of Emily’s cousin, and find themselves in the company of a strange heku. This heku befriends Emily, and comes to her defense when Chevalier finds out, and the Equites Council threatens to turn against her.Emily’s abilities strengthen, and her immense value as a weapon becomes evident to all three factions and the relationships become more tense and volatile.

This series is so well crafted! The characters are so much fun! I binge listened to all 3 books in under a week and then started on book 4!

I disagree with Atkin’s

I believe that as a series there’s a combination of the main character traits because not only because people are complex, but the situations she’s been through have made her more complex than the average “mortal.” Not everyone is strong all the time and I love that she defends herself even when she’s weak. While I don’t love the writing style, I do think Emily is a well written character and as she’s young at this point, she’s still developing. Thank you for sharing your work.

So confusing!!

Ok I am by no means a writer but I thought I had to write this! I read all the time and listen to audiobooks. The main character in them is almost always a hero and you watch them grow into that part. The main character in this story is a woman with either huge mental damage or quite possibly the dumbest woman on earth. I don't know what the author was trying for. One minute Emily is a strong independent woman, the next she is a meek and timid woman. And finally she is a woman with no common sense and the survival instincts of a carrot!! To give you an example of what I am talking about. There is a part where she is in the hospital with multiple injuries and she won't let them give her a shot of pain meds and she keeps ripping out her IV to the point they have to put her in restraints!! And she does not come off as likable to me but more as a spoiled 5 year old.
