Most people would say that it is morally wrong — terrible! — that a child must suffer cruelly and without end so that others may live well. Although the “Omelas” story is only a tale, we have such a world now. We Americans live in great comfort because we rob poor people in other countries of their natural resources. For example, poor people lose their health by working to make parts for our computers — work which exposes them to harmful chemicals. These poor people lose their trees and therefore their healthy air so that rich people in the US can have the best furniture. What do you think about that?
