Founders

Learn from history's greatest entrepreneurs. Every week I read a biography of an entrepreneur and find ideas you can use in your work. This quote explains why: "There are thousands of years of history in which lots and lots of very smart people worked very hard and ran all types of experiments on how to create new businesses, invent new technology, new ways to manage etc. They ran these experiments throughout their entire lives. At some point, somebody put these lessons down in a book. For very little money and a few hours of time, you can learn from someone’s accumulated experience. There is so much more to learn from the past than we often realize. You could productively spend your time reading experiences of great people who have come before and you learn every time." —Marc Andreessen

    Absolutely amazing
Loved these podcasts. Can you please do a show on Dhirubhai Ambani. An Indian founder. He rose from being an employee at a gas station to creating a business empire worth several hundred billion dollar. One famous anecdote about him, is when he was working at a gas he used to $10 monthly, but he would go and have tea in 5 star hotel, which would at time cost as much. People would say that he wastes money going in those hotels to have tea. But the reason he would go there was listen to conversations people would have there, all wealthy business people, to learn from their conversations and get a chance to meet them.

Learn from the best with Timeless wisdom
If you want a high leverage activity. This is it. You might want to listen over and over as the concepts sometimes take time to digest, but there are clear patterns that David highlights which are applicable to almost any life and career situations. Thank you!

    Best podcast to self improve
Hello David, This is the best podcast I found few months back. Since then all my car drive is taken over by your podcast. I learn every time I drive , workout, do house chores etc. Funny thing was I found your podcast after finishing poor Charlie Alamanck. And this podcast is helping me increase my world view. I have reached 148th episode, can wait to go over the upcoming 1000s of biographies. I have made an excel sheet of the books covered and have already selected the books to order. Thank you for building this podcast. Thanks Rishabh

Invaluable resource for the ambitious individual
David Senra has accomplished with founders creating a single source—a wellspring—of curated information about the formidable individuals who have built our world. His commentary and insights, not only entertaining and educational, help the listener realize that they too can shape the world, if only they choose to try.

    Incredible Content
David’s passion for entrepreneurship is so authentic. I’m ready to run through a wall after many of his episodes. Love how he covers a wide variety of individuals- athletes, entertainers, titans of business, etc. Unsolicited content suggestion- The Marathon Don’t Stop- The Life and Times of Nipsey Hussle. Some great stories in the book about recognizing an industry seachange and seizing the resulting opportunity.

    Ma man to iMac
The name change from "MacMan" to "iMac" was influenced by several factors under the leadership of Steve Jobs at Apple. Initially, Ken Segall, an ad agency creative director working with Apple, proposed the name "MacMan" as one of the options during the development of the new product. However, Steve Jobs initially disliked the name "iMac" when it was suggested, but Segall insisted that the "i" prefix could stand for "internet," "individual," "instruct," "inform," and "inspire." These terms resonated with the product's focus on ease of internet access, among other innovative features. Despite his initial resistance, Steve Jobs eventually warmed up to the name "iMac" after seeing it in a context that helped underscore the product's emphasis on the internet—highlighting one of the key selling points of the product at the time. This decision was pivotal as it set the stage for a series of revolutionary products from Apple that followed the same naming convention, such as the iPod, iPhone, and iPad, defining a brand identity that favored simplicity and approachability. This name change underlined Jobs' ability to see the broader implications of product naming in shaping consumer perceptions and aligning with the product's innovative features. It was a blend of strategic marketing and vision, capturing the essence of what the new computer was all about and how it differed from competitors.

    Quality Work
Well researched. David is a gifted communicator and teacher. You may get more from this podcast then you would from a college degree. The only thing college has that this podcast doesn’t is the relationship/networking potential.

The best media (not just podcast) I’ve found as a founder
If you’re a founder or an aspiring one, you should be reading biographies. You should also be listening to this show. I have learned so so much from David - things I could have learned if I had infinite time to read - which, unfortunately, I don’t (I’m trying to build a company). I cannot get enough of this. It’s information. Its inspiration. It’s valuable beyond words. Just listen.

    Best Podcast To Date
I have been listening to David’s show for nearly a year now. The content is phenomenal and tailored directly to the entrepreneur/founder listening in hoping to gain insight on whatever journey they are on. I am on episode 52 right now and plan to listen through every episode available. I think you are nearing 400 now. Thank you for all your hard work, David!

    Thank you!!!
The first time I listened I thought why do I want to listen to this guy telling me his opinions on biographies— by the end of the episode I was like this is amazing. I am so grateful to you for making this show which has now become somewhat of an obsession. I wish I had discovered this while I was trying to launch my business, which I ultimately had to put on hold. Thank you David, your show inspires me and and the more I listen, the better it gets as I can start to connect the dots.

    Belief before Ability
This podcast is amazing. David weaves the ideas of history’s greatest creators and entrepreneurs into a master class on building and growing your own company. As a creator, the episodes on Steve Jobs and James Dyson are probably the most important, but every episode contains valuable insights that become exponentially more relevant as you work through the catalog.

    Founders Got me into Podcasts
I had never really listened to podcasts until I was recommended the Founders Podcast. After listening to a few episodes, my eyes were opened to the power of Podcasts and the knowledge that can be acquired by listening. This is an amazing show and I would highly recommend to anyone interested in business or learning from very successful people. It is also entertaining. I also find it intriguing how the founder of the podcast has grown over the last 6 years, both in his communication and analytical abilities, but also his personal connections with very successful business people. Thank you!

    Game changer
I’m so glad I found you. I’ve spent my entire career focused on how much I can learn and grow professionally. But what I’ve learned, is that it’s all about the people you spend your time with and who’s brain you can pick. I’ve learned more from putting myself in the right place (with the right people) and mindset to absorb everything I can, and this podcast is the epitome of that concept. Others’ mistakes can teach you more about your craft than a textbook, or even their own successes. Thank you for your contribution to knowledge, learning, and understanding.

David Senra adds far more value than others
This podcast truly opened my eyes to how much we can learn from books by and about history’s greatest founders. If David can’t get his hands on an autobiography, then he tackles his subject from multiple viewpoints so that listeners get a clear view of the person from multiple angles. Doing something new is truly a combination of art and science, and David’s podcast allows listeners to develop mental frameworks that are extraordinarily useful as they continue to innovate.

History’s Greatest Entrepreneurs are Directly Speaking to You

    A Pleasant Surprise
I got introduced to this podcast from Invest Like the Best. I didn’t think much about the show, but eventually listened to his Ed Thorpe Episodes. Since then, I can’t stop listening! David Senra is an excellent story teller, and I’ve now used his podcast as a guide for books to read. Not only an excellent story teller, whether intentional or not, I find him a great motivator. Episodes on Dee Hock or James Dyson have acted as great “pick-me-ups” if I find myself “down-in-the-dumps”. I highly recommend the podcast, and believe there is at least one episode in here for everyone!

    It’s about the energy
I love listening to Founders. David brings so much positive energy. It is motivating and enjoyable. Even David himself is motivating as I like hearing about his not taking and just his general enthusiasm for what he does. And, yes, I’ve even been inspired to read/listen to more than a few biographies directly from the podcast.
