The subject matter of this show is great and I love that it spans local history, outdoor opportunities and natural resource issues. However I find the host to be lackluster, to the point where I have bailed on some episodes.

The last thing Oregon needs is more tourists to come and disrespect the land and locals.

I always learn from this podcast. The host is great and makes we want to explore all the places he talks about.

I moved to Oregon in 2018 and luckily discovered this podcast shortly there after. Zach Urness produces well research highly interesting content that has enhanced my understanding of Oregon and nature in general. I enjoy this podcast so much I share it with friends and family, and have actually almost subscribed to the statesman based on the podcast alone. Zach, if you read these reviews, I am really curious about the music that starts every show. Is that your guitar playing or someone else’s?

If listening to this podcast for a couple years has taught me anything, it’s that 1) the government in Oregon is actively trying to keep people from outdoor recreation, and 2) Oregonians are entitled, conceited hypocrites who abuse nature when given the opportunity. That’s basically the theme of every episode. “Too many people are going outside and ruining it. How do we keep them from doing it while keeping up this facade of being green, outdoorsy Oregonians?” State Parks is a joke. The Forest Service is a disappointment. Go to literally any other state if you want wide open spaces and freedom to recreate responsibly.

Good Oregon content. Many great ideas for places to go. But the volume level varies from segment to segment. The guitar music at the beginning of the podcast is particularly loud relative to the other segments.

Was really disappointed on the latest episode about cooking and in hunting in the backcountry where the guest described spearfishing with older technology as “savage” the the host laughed along. People indigenous to Oregon and North America have been spearfishing for thousands of years, and that interaction felt really insensitive. Bummer.

Lots of great ideas for getting outside in Oregon and good context about how to stay away from the crowds!

My family has been in Oregon for many generations and I thought I knew about all the best parts of our state, but I’m learning so much! Love this podcast. It’s well made, and the host is both informed and a great interviewer!

This podcast energized my exploration of Oregon. With the Pandemic I’ve needed outdoor activities and while the Gifford Pinchot is nice, I needed inspiration to explore further afield. Great hosts and thoroughly researched. Good audio quality and length. Fantastic listen in road trips!
