Scared To Death

12,282

The paranormal comes to life as husband-wife duo Dan Cummins (acclaimed standup comedian and true horror fan) and Lynze Cummins (costume and wardrobe stylist for numerous film and television productions) share terrifying stories that will leave you sleeping with the lights on. Dan’s goal? To scare Lynze with creepy accounts of demonic possession, shadow people, and other eerie phenomena. And when he’s done, Lynze fights back with chilling fan-submitted tales of true horror. Together, they explore the darkest corners of the web, dusty old books, and even their own eerie surroundings—a studio filled with occult objects and located right next to a cemetery. Don’t forget to check out the mini-series Nightmare Fuel, airing on this feed the first and third Friday of every month, where Dan narrates a short piece of original horror fiction.

    A message to all
Stop loving your sin and rebellion and turn to Christ for your salvation. Curiosity is ok, but there are deceiving spirits who seek to keep you from Christ, the only name given to man by which to be saved. Transgenderism has come up recently, but few know it is an ancient practice of the worshippers of Ishtar, the goddess of fertility in Mesopotamia (aka Babylon region in the Bible). Priests would castrate themselves and dress as women. An ancient deceiving spirit is reemerging in this culture and demanding worship, seeking to keep people blinded to the saving Grace of Christ. Much love!

    I thought I was tough….?
JC!! I just listened to He will make you whole again while at the end of my day driving (trucker here) stopping at 1 am in the pan handle of New Mexico/Texas. I am on the edge of my chair listening and completely hanging on each moment of the story. It ends. Great ending! I pull the brakes, parked in a nearly ghost town and realize as I am checking my rig in the pitch black with only my work lights and flashlight that I am absolutely on edge, searching the sutra ding field and brush for any sign of movement. Great job! You got me good as I laugh to myself nervously. Love the show and have been a follower since the beginning (almost) and this new addition of Nightmare Fuel is fantastic. Keep writing my man for tonight you literally had me scared to death.

    Writer’s Dream
I’ve listened to Scared to Death (and Timesuck, Dan’s other podcast) for years and been impressed by Dan’s curiosity, irreverence, and interest in the macabre. Huge fan of all Dan does and is. (Stand up is fabulous, too.) THEN, dude started writing his own scary stories and releasing them under the Nightmare Fuel title on StD. As a fellow writer, I am blown away, not only because the stories are SOLID every time, but because Dan is churning these out while managing his otherwise busy life, and I find that inspirational. Keep it going, Dan. Hail Nimrod!

    Comfort podcast!!!
I’ve been listening for 5 years now!! I love scary stories and I stumbled upon S2D during my sophomore year of high school, and I’ve been listening since!! Amazing stories and banter!! Love the addition of nightmare fuels to,, always look forward to them!!

    Too much talking
Can the editing team go back and edit out Lynzee’s unnecessary commentary? It really takes me out of the story and makes for a worse product. After every sentence there is a random outburst. In the middle of the best parts of some stories she gasps and interjects with irrelevant, unwanted, and useless rhetoric. When it gets to the second half of the podcast when Lynzee gets to treat us with listener stories, she can’t ever get through a set up without interrupting herself. Maybe some more preparation before she goes live would be helpful.

I love your podcasts this one & nightmare fuel. I loved ALL the episodes and have left many awesome reviews.. Well except this one’s ending. I beg, no I plead with you please don’t go political.. Just remember can 1/2 the population be wrong? Try to look at this as positivity & wishing for nothing but success in the next 4yrs for the country and not who or what side is getting ‘𝑼𝑺’ there bc 𝑾𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆.

    Wife is annoying
Can do without his wife’s pointless comments, also keep your political stances to yourselves just stick to the horror story

    Labyrinth
David Bowie was in The Labyrinth, not The Dark Crystal. Otherwise, good stuff.

Listen to the first couple years only
The show isn’t what it was when it started. Stories lack that feeling of being sucked in and encapsulated by paranormal. I’m officially tapped out when lynze decided to share a story about how a past loved one came back to tell someone it’s okay they’re transgender…

    Love the podcast
Awesome podcast. One little thing I’d suggest is maybe Lynze find more range in her stories. The heartwarming ghost stories about a family’s loved one passing over and letting them know they are okay seems to be the last story she shares on every episode. Regardless I’ll always listen and still support. You guys do an awesome job
  • Kayarjay
    Fantastic
The entirety of your podcasts are awesome. But “Nightmare Fuel” is the best. I am super digging them all, not one bad story. This should definitely be a stand alone podcast, but even if not I will continue to listen to them all. Thanks these really are awesome!!!

    It’s getting better

    Nightmare fuel
Been listening for years. Love the new nightmares. Dan, I want to thank you, your wonderful wife and the team you have for all of the amazing content. I listen practically every day: timesuck, STD and nightmare fuel. Stay strong brother. I recommend anyone to spend some time in this community.

    Love it!
I love this podcast so much! I look forward to it every week. Howeverrrrrr... Lynze stop correcting Dan on stuff that don't even matter or stop trying to be right all the time 🙄 she annoys me to the point that it makes me want to stop listening but the stories are too good!

    I’ll Be Back
Love the show and gang. Gotta unsubscribe until Nightmare Fuel is moved to its own podcast because, ironically, Dan is getting too good with his writing. I enjoyed the first couple of NF episodes, but as more have released I started skipping them, which turned into avoiding the show completely in my feed. Keep up the great work, but i gotta check back in once NF has its own feed because for whatever reason they freak me out in a different way than STD does. So, good job! lol I guess knowing the titles and stories are whole cloth from Dan’s mind RATHER than found and dressed up material makes is scarier to me, which is backwards right??
  • Scarah D
    Wow that’s good!
I’ve loved every nightmare fuel you’ve given us, Dan. This most recent- Moloch’s Pact - was INCREDIBLE!! The characters, the terror; loved every minute. My jaw was dropped at the end of part two. Ya write some great stories, thank you for them!

    😍
I think this may be my favorite podcast. I’ve been listening to podcasts for about 15 years and this one is just the perfect mix of funny and spooky and scary. Nightmare Fuel is 15/10 for me. It’s spectacular. Dan & Lynze are absolute gems of humans 🖤🖤

    Great podcast
If you’re a fan of spine-chilling tales that keep you looking over your shoulder long after the episode ends, then Dan Cummins’ Nightmare Fuel episodes on Scared to Death are an absolute must-listen. Dan, alongside his wife Lynze, has mastered the art of immersive horror storytelling, and these special episodes take the fear factor to a whole new level. What sets Nightmare Fuel apart? First, Dan’s delivery is impeccable—his deep, deliberate pacing and eerie storytelling style pull you right into the darkness. He has a way of painting a picture so vividly that you feel like you’re right there, trapped in the haunted house, standing in the cursed woods, or waking up to something watching you from the shadows. These stories are next-level terrifying, often leaving even the most seasoned horror fans checking their closets before bed. But it’s not just the scares—it’s the production quality and attention to detail that elevate these episodes. The careful research, the creepy sound design, and the sheer variety of tales—ranging from historical hauntings to modern-day supernatural encounters—make for an experience that lingers long after you’ve pressed pause. And let’s not forget the perfect balance of humor and heart that Scared to Death is known for. While Nightmare Fuel leans heavily into pure terror, the chemistry between Dan and Lynze, along with their reactions to each other’s stories, keeps the experience both entertaining and personal. If you’re looking for a podcast that delivers true horror with a storyteller who knows exactly how to get under your skin, Nightmare Fuel is the way to go. Just be warned—you might not sleep quite as soundly after listening.

The perfect mix of spooky and funny
The stories are legitimately scary, with great voice acting and ambience, and the in-between banter is always so much fun.

    Nightmare Fuel
The Nightmare Fuel series has been on-par with your best work, and I really love your standup and TimeSuck very much. It’s creeping up on being some of your best work; the story telling and world building has been phenomenal. Wouldn’t change a thing. 3/5 stars.

Nightmare fuel and scared to death
Dear god please make the nightmare fuels weekly too! So creative, I can’t help but dive in to all the stories!

    Terrifyingly Entertaining
Scared to Death is the perfect mix of chilling stories, great storytelling, and fun banter. Dan’s deep dives and Lynze’s listener-submitted tales always keep me hooked. I especially love the Nightmare Fuel episodes—they never fail to give me chills.

    Nightmare Fuel
Still loving all the Nightmare Fuel! Loved the new Moloch’s pact! Can’t wait for part 2!

Too much unrelated and unnecessary banter between stories
Too much banter between stories that doesn’t need to be there…I’m here for stories not everything else…to add to the review, it’s getting to the point where Lynze “hears” or “sees” something every episode…it’s getting old and making me want to stop listening, between that and the unnecessary unrelated banter…makes it hard to keep going
  • iceycruz
    My favorite.
I have been listening to this podcast for years now. I thoroughly enjoy Dan & Lynze’s commentary. They really have a way with storytelling that makes you feel like you’re IN the stories. The scoring of this show is amazing as well. I can’t say enough good things about this podcast. It’s just great.
  • Skittr
    Perfect 3/5 stars
Came for the spooky, stayed for the fun banter and spooky. First few episodes are predictably rough but it just gets better over time. Hail Nimrod! and don’t be a Darren by not listening to this.
  • Irish1Dan
    Was a favorite…
Show was previously enjoyable scary stories with a little banter between husband and wife. Some of the stories are now contain political undertones. Lynsey was previously a little annoying, but her pretentious personality is too much now.
  • Shpuppylove
    Wow!!!
The nurse Lucy episode so creepy! But so well written need more stories!

    New Listener
I heard about this podcast from Jim Harold and thought I’d give it a shot. I am starting from the beginning episodes and moving forward. I like the show but Lynze swears too much for my liking. Maybe have her checked for demonic oppression. 👻
  • WomanOfTheNight7
    👍🏼
Lynze, not liking the smell of a specific food is not racist. Quit pushing something so awful to pander to people. Just be a good person. Pretty simple. Thaaaaanks!
  • Hheather0284
    Nightmare Fuel
Dan I am loving your stories!! I especially love the thriller suspense ones, The Hotel and Virus just a couple of my favs. After the most recent one, please tell me, has Lynze been watching you more closely? Making sure you haven’t seen the man in the hat? 😂😂 I love you guys!!
  • Superwebhead2222
    Where is Lynze
Love this podcast! I’m a Robert in fact but where is Lynze’s pic where the “hosts” are listed?
  • silvertidechic
I’ve listened since the first episode but….
I love horror stories and have listened since the beginning. I love Dan’s comedy and I like hearing fan stories. However it’s gotten very annoying CD lately. Lynze some how manages to connect every story to “when I worked on this movie” or “when I toured with Rihanna”. It feels as if she needs to be connected to everything (which screams “pick me”) . Plus she criticizes every mistake that Dan makes, but gets so upset when he nicely corrects her. She actually basically threw a tantrum once because he questioned if she meant “inhumane” or “inhuman” (she kept switching them) and said “ you couldn’t have waited until later instead? “, basically implying that he had humiliated her and ruined the story. Plus she constantly interrupts him but if he does it, she responds with “I wasn’t talking” in a snotty tone.

    Nightmare fuel SLAPS
I’m a bit late to STD but I love Timesuck and after I finished that catalog I started listening to this to pass the time waiting for new Timesucks lol. And boy did I join at the perfect time!!! Nightmare fuel is beyond tremendous and the podcast by itself is also super entertaining! He’s always made great content but now he’s making amazing art! Love the chills, stay classy creeps and peepers

    NEW ORLEANS
As someone who is from, and lives in New Orleans, I am appalled at how much you talk about the city, yet you do not acknowledge the recent events involving terrorism in our city.

    Love scared to death
Scared to death pulled me into podcast. I’m not a podcast fan and this is the first one I have ever listen too. My fiancé she introduced me to this show and I love it. Can’t say I’ll listen to other podcast but I’m definitely here for this one and the new stories that comes out.

    Nightmare Fuel!!!
Love the new Nightmare Fuel stories!!! I listen to them in the shower to get more mileage because it’s only 10-15 minutes. It’s like my treat for getting ready in the mornings.

    AMAZING (I am 11)
I heard about this from Run Fool! And I love this show thank you for making it
  • Perry1924
    Still a fan
I really like this podcast but the repeated interjections take me out of the stories. I don’t mind some back and forth banter but there’s alot of unrelated commentary on things and it just takes me out of the stories. I’m listening to be scared or feel uneasy but I find myself skipping through to the next story. I do like what dans been doing with the nightmare fuels and it would be cool to have them in a separate feed to listen to them all one after another.
  • WokeAFlistener
    Leftist Political Undertones
If you lean right at all, it’s clear the hosts of this show hate you, and I can no longer support them. Some unsolicited advice in case Dan and Lynze read their reviews: Focus less on politically charged, passive-aggressive commentary and fictionalized anecdotes, and you could significantly broaden your audience because you (especially Dan) are good story tellers. Or start a political podcast…
  • liviskool
    Love it!
Recently found this podcast, I love it! I’m truly hooked on The Storm as well! I have my fingers crossed that episodes continue, Cam’s death can NOT be the end!
