Marcus D. BaldwinHilarious and RevelatoryIt is very rare that you run across a pod that manages to be incredibly funny but also succeeds I reshaping your understanding on a lot of issues. These two are so fun, thoughtful, and adept at wielding their journalistic research skills to undermine some of the most toxic preconceptions of our culture. Always happy to see the notification that a new episode of theirs has dropped, even though Michael laughs like Snidley Whiplash’s dog sometimes.

MexicanZoraListened and Re-listenedI love this show, Aubrey is so kind and empathetic and I’ve been a fan of Michael’s work for a while. It’s funny and engaging, emotionally impactful, and the editing kind of ruins other podcasts for me it’s so good.

zzzzannnnyLove your show!!!I love yall so much. Your banter, or research, everything. I’m interested in a show on Fitspresso??? Thanks for all you do :)

batten.mommaMissI miss this show so much.

Paleo princessThe Absolute BestI have listened to every episode of this show and I love it so much! Mike and Aubrey have brilliant chemistry and their episodes are the perfect balance of well researched content and humor. They have a way of making you feel like you are right there in the room hanging out with your best friends. I tell everyone to listen to this show, especially the BMI episode, the obesity epidemic and the rapid onset gender dysphoria one. They are all amazing though! I actually subscribed to their bonus content because I ran out of episodes to listen to and I really enjoy their bonus episodes as well! They are a little more fun and lighthearted, like when Aubrey told Mike about The Bachelor… I actually learned A LOT from that one. Anyway, my only complaint is that they have ruined pretty much every other podcast for me. I try to listen to other things but it just isn’t the same.

ActualJimComeyFavorite PoscastI think I’ve listened to every episode about a dozen times now. I have an intensely co-dependent para-social relationship with Aubrey and Mike and it’s not going to get weird or whatever but I love them. 🥰

SophTofeCan’t stop listeningSo smart, so funny. I’ve listened to the whole catalogue at least twice. Adding: and thank you THANK YOU for these episodes about the ongoing trans panic we’re experiencing. As a trans person with a very trans family, I don’t think I could bring myself to dig this deeply into what’s going on by myself, but it’s important to understand. These episodes feel like sitting with two good friends who are holding my hand and walking me thru everything I need to know, laughing and crying right along with me.

brunchsquatch 5555ObsessedThis is my absolute favorite pod of all time

123//--::Wanna feel guiltedI love both hosts. It doesn’t really bother me when they do episodes about calories and/or exercise and say that those are not really important (I think they are.) What bothers me is the constant talk of fat shaming. Fat shaming ABSOLUTELY exists, but when they talk about it constantly and aggressively, I feel chastised as a listener. If I’m a listener of the show, I’m already very aware of the stigma. Stop yelling that EVERYONE is demonizing fat people. That’s not a behavior that I demonstrate.

CoolzezI loved the Ed McMahon show, AubreyIt was one of my favorites! Maybe one needs to be a gen-xer to appreciate this back door look into Ed. I even bought a tattered hardback of Martinis and Whipped Cream: The Carbo-Cal Way to Lose Weight and Stay Slim on Amazon. This era of crack-pot diets is my favorite.
-
Proudveganchick93Two martinis into ConnecticutThe Ed McMahon episode is also my favorite episode and I am shocked and dismayed to learn that others do not agree
-
HeidiNicole24Great ShowLong-time listener here. I have listened through the backlog twice. Great, well-researched show.

that'sminethe mysteries of the gut biomePlease add Zach Bush to your episode list.

FightMeThenJill/Lotoya/MorganAbandoned conceptI have no idea what the shows about anymore and they don’t even care to do it

Bad2TheSconeInfotainment at its finest!I love this podcast so much I listened to all the free episodes in just over 2 weeks then binged all the paid episodes over the course of a month. If you think you don’t want to listen to the worm wars episode like me, you’re wrong. Listen to it. You are you in for a wild ride! And after the first 10 minutes they don’t actually talk about the worms that much. Also, the Ozampic episode… If you are taking it, you know anyone taking it, or are thinking about taking it, LISTEN TO THIS GD EPISODE! Truly a masterpiece as is the whole show. 1000/10 would follow Aubrey to the depths of the ocean and Michael Hobbes to as far as his little ENFP legs could peddle.

Tommy234578Dirty mouth leftistNothing but a leftist podcast with quite a few curse words thrown in. Just trying to pass their views onto the listeners. Not neutral at all.

miss cghHit or MissI wish I could give it a 3.5… I’ll echo many other reviews on saying that the pod had a strong start but has gone a bit off the rails. There’s a decent amount of bias, and the hosts will often say “we don’t care if YOU do xyz” but… it’s pretty clear they do. The show makes amazing points and debunks a lot of diet myths, but they often let their personal opinions take over their apparent stated attempts to be objective. I’ll keep listening, but I’d rather hear more episodes in line with the original premise, like covering Goop and the cabbage soup diet, over the Myers Briggs and trans issues.

Nespresso_addict24Well-researched but too inconsistent to consider this a great showAubrey and Mike have great chemistry as co-hosts and I learned a lot from their early episodes which tackled specific diet-culture/weight-related topics one at a time at great depth. Their approaches to researching different topics and styles of delivery complement each other well. Areas of opportunity: 1) I’m inclined to agree with both of their stances on most topics but with that said, despite how well-researched the episodes are, I think some of their takes and conclusions would land more credibly if they gave a little bit more good-faith explanation of the opposing side. 2) My biggest beef is how inconsistent the show has become, probably since the spring. Prior to then the episodes would air on a consistent schedule, each clearly aligned to the original scope of the show (at least as I understood it - focused on weight etc.) Since then there’s been not even an episode a month (unless you’re a paid subscriber; it’s possible they announced this is going to be a subscriber-only podcast going forward and I just missed that). And the content that *has* aired over the last several months has been more focused on issues relating to trans body autonomy than to weight or diet culture. This is also an important topic but I miss the shows they did focusing on the original premise - maybe they should have two podcasts to cover both topics at the depth they deserve.

CC719CCmany good parts, but the swearing is too muchOverall I really like this podcast, and listening to it and reading Aubrey’s books has definitely made me re-examine my own fat-phobia and the ingrained diet culture messages I’ve absorbed throughout my life. I’ve been listening since the first episode dropped. Many of their messages are good and valuable - fad diets definitely need debunking and their method of doing so is very entertaining. On the other hand, though, I really struggled hearing their messages of “diets don’t work and always fail” with no counterbalance of good nutritional info. I also agree with other reviewers that the constant swear words (from both hosts) are a turn-off, and completely unnecessary. **updated review after a couple more years of listening — the more I listened to this podcast, particularly recently, I realized that although the original intention may have been good (debunk fad diets and fight back against diet culture), Mike and Aubrey are not qualified or reliable sources of information. Mike seems to have some bone to pick with academic researchers. He’s never done actual scientific research in any of these areas, and is not (as far as I can tell), trained in how to do scientific and academic studies on these topics. Yes the quacks deserve to be called out, but the vast majority of people who are dedicating their careers to researching nutrition and related topics in good faith do not deserve the treatment they sometimes get on this show. If Aubrey is truly happy and comfortable in her body, that’s great, but she is an activist, not a nutritionist or endocrinologist, and clearly cherry picks the messages that she chooses to include.

LakertonI wish I could PayyyyBut alas, me so poor. But I love these two and this podcast has quite literally opened my eyes to weight issues, both my own and the way we talk about and treat those who are overweight and underweight. Weight… it doesn’t matter like you thought you did.

The food pyramid, pilates, cow libel, Angela L, I mean I love them all and never tire of listening. New ones old, ones give me MP!! I love swearing. I love learning. I love laughing ! I love Aubrey and Mike! I don’t love diets! Trans rights! Love you MP :)

Maryrebecca1992!The show used to be exceptional, I don’t understand what they are doing now.I really used to adore this podcast and would recommend it to everyone, but if Michael wanted to keep making You’re Wrong About, the show already exists. He left that show to make this one. So why are we just doing more You’re Wrong About type material now? Before the pivot, I would’ve rated this 10 out of five stars because this podcast was so important to me and so monumental in me learning to be kind to myself and my body. But now it’s neither interesting nor recommendable. I still love both hosts, I’m just so incredibly disappointed in the show.
-
hueyyyyyyyyToo muchI’ve tried several times to listen to this podcast and each time I end up unfollowing. The hosts over talk each other, laugh so much that it’s impossible to keep up with what they are talking about, and I feel like the episodes have no beginning or end. Every topic starts in the middle and it leaves me asking myself, “What are they talking about?” At first the topics had good thoughts and research. Now they are trying too hard to be funny but falling completely short.
-
nmar11Love the podcastBut I can’t seem to access it. I push play and a pop up window says the episode is unavailable.

Kat art listensWhy the pivotI’m very curious, and a little confused about the pivot from criticism of diet culture etc. to seemingly unrelated topics. Why the pivot?
-
magzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzxLaughs and factsYou guys never fail to make me laugh and make me feel a little smarter!!

RDB9917Great topics, please ditch the excessive guffawsThe show covers topics that fascinate me, raises thoughtful questions and shares interesting anecdotes, perspectives and data. Michael and Aubrey clearly enjoy delving deeply into their research and exploring each topic fully. However, Aubrey speaks at times with such an overbearingly loud voice and forced laughter that I can’t bring myself to continue listening, even when I’m deeply interested in the topic. The aggressive laughter also seems tonally incompatible with the topics being discussed; while many of the topics are amusing, this isn’t a gag joke comedy show. Aubrey, you’re otherwise really good at your job. Please listen to some of your own episodes and adjust your voice or your microphone.

HH-NYCLove love loveMy favorite podcast hands down. Aubrey and Michael are fabulous. It’s funny, informative, compassionate. It makes me laugh every single time and I always always learn a lot. 5 stars

bethwindlea gem!On a recommendation from my doctor after a particularly tough go at weight loss, I started listening to this podcast. It’s changed my life. I look forward to every new episode and I’m enjoying working my way through the old episodes.
-
FJTiffsmomBack in the good old daysAt the start, I loved this podcast about health and wellness. When it shifted to other topics, I lost interest and, with a paywall now, that seals the deal. Oh well, it was amazing while it lasted.
-
xtinaishWorth subscribing to the PatreonI miss the regular schedule, but I’m happy to subscribe to the Patreon to get the monthly episodes. Truly my favorite pod!
-
RaeverseNecessary Sanity CheckI have health issues that make weight loss nearly impossible. This show has kept me from losing my mind with helpful stats and delicious snark. You two are excellent at what you do and hella researched!
-
LA YMCA userIt’s not greed…Podcasts like this take time and research. without ads, they rely on listeners. the hosts have said a million times you can just pay $5 on their Patreon ONCE, download bonus eps then quit - they don’t care! This show has changed a lot of people’s mindsets and they deserve compensation for their work.
-
frankmaxjacobso insaneThis show is crazy but addictive. Do audrey (aubrey?) and Michael even believe the stuff they’re saying or are they laughing their way to the bank? LOL I actually listen to this so much but it drives me crazy. I wish i could eat a milk dud (my personal fave) every time they called something classist
-
asalffpxkqtMonetization ruined the experienceI love this show. I love the content and I think the creators are hilarious. Unfortunately, greed has damaged my impression of Maintenance Phase. Most episodes are now behind a paywall and I see no reason to subscribe when I can get other content for free. I regularly search for this podcast to see if a new episode has been posted and feel dismayed when I learn that it is for subscribers only. I wish them the best, but hope they end the podcast.!
-
El HempGood and fun scienceI am so glad this show exists. I know some of the information on a surface level, but the details shared are so telling. Yey for thoughtful research.
-
LesJoRoLove!I love these two together! Even if the topics aren’t 6 I think I have any interest in they surprise me with how much I have enjoyed every single episode.
-
buckZor33Highly opinionated leftists say things..Specifically, this garbage show showed up as the top hit searching for more information about Jordan Peterson’s life changing diet.. just wow.. zero factual, ‘highly spiteful half of the country hate faces’ say things. That’s what I got from it.
-
clefsakerLife-changing podcastThis podcast completely changed my outlook on weight, diet, and people’s bodies. Aubrey and Michael are somehow hilarious while also discussing some of the most subtle but painful social messaging we are bombarded with daily. The episodes have become very sporadic (the hosts have kept updating why that is, contrary to some reviewers’ claims), but I decided to stay a Patreon supporter because I respect the hosts and the change that they’re making in the world. Whether it’s on this podcast or social media or in their writing, these are two genuinely loving people passionately advocating for those who are the most unloved in our society. I want to support them in all they do, and though I absolutely LOVE this podcast, if it takes a hit because of their advocacy efforts, so be it.
-
nicole_maddogBummedI LOVE this show and will listen to literally anything they decide to talk about. But they haven’t posted regularly in nearly a year (for valid reasons) and keep apologizing and saying they’re going to find a way to move forward but never seem to make it happen or communicate clearly about what’s going on. I’m a subscriber and now we also haven’t gotten subscriber episodes for June or July. Just feels like they’ve lost interest/run out of ideas and the show is slowly dying. I’m so sad!
-
hwpwMike needs 10,000 platforms for stupid internet fightsjust Mike’s twitter beefs and frankly the ethics of still being on twitter alone sink this. for the love of god jump ship, Aubrey.
-
ellaoh22I’m a subscriber but…They’ve stopped doing regular episodes so basically their content is going to be behind a paywall from now on. So typical of where podcasting is headed UPDATE: this show is barely recognizable. Everything Mike touches could turn to gold, but it turns into leftist political commentary. Why can’t any of his shows stay true to the original premise of the show? I’m a leftist myself but I’m tired of hearing about politics. Just do health and wellness please
-
Cl0udD0wnAdore this show!Just listened to the rapid onset of gender dysphoria episode. As a parent of a trans kiddo, I’ve been on the front lines of seeing a child at the age of 8 beginning to realize who they are. They are almost 20 now. Alive, healthy, living well. Without therapy and treatment I’m 100% certain they wouldn’t be with us today. (edit—it took a year of counseling and a doc approval before they could access hormone treatment)
-
Aunty PlantyEveryone else is wrong!I enjoyed this show in the past but it’s gotten difficult to listen to. The hosts only believe science that supports their narrative and laugh at any other research or people they don’t agree with. This has become the most outwardly biased pod on my feed. I’d love to hear them be surprised and change their mind on something, but alas I don’t think I’ll be listening any longer.
-
swberyNet negative for awarenessSadly I had to unsubscribe because I felt that this show was ultimately doing more harm than good when it comes to health misinformation. I don’t like how the hosts are so quick to discredit peer reviewed papers and doctors/stats that do not align with their politics. Isn’t that exactly why we all hate red states?! There are several episodes where they are making bad faith arguments and straight up tell the listeners to ignore the science because “they” are lying to you. Again. Straight from the conservative playbook. I’d like to add that neither of them are experts in any STEM field so what do they know?? Ive often heard political variation described as a horseshoe rather than a line. And I fear that these hosts are so far left on the horseshoe that they are only a few centimeters away from the radical right. They really don’t sound much different than anti-vax rhetoric or climate deniers. There is no nuance, only “I am right and they are lying it’s all a huge conspiracy!!!” It’s very disheartening.

SeeYouSpaceCowboy13<3There’s one deeply unfortunate thing about this podcast and it’s the fact that I did not find it sooner. I am the type of person that listens to a few shows every week and struggles to branch out and find something else that I know I’ll love. Luckily, I took a chance on something new and it’s safe to say I’ll be listening to every episode for the foreseeable future. Thank you!!
-
AustinRNCarmeliteThis podcast is helping me and my trans kidI live in a state where gender-affirming care is banned, and my child and I are navigating a series of overwhelming obstacles to seek and receive even the most basic care (like puberty blockers). I am still in the process, as well, of trying to understand how best to help my child. These last three episodes on trans youth have helped me so much, and I have sent them to a number of friends and family members to help them understand the science and culture of trans youth care. I can’t thank Michael and Aubrey enough for their intelligent and impassioned research and analysis.
-
JoMamaWDOh please Michael! Please please please do a show on twin studies!! Just heard you mention it on the latest episode and I perked up! I hold a couple of psych degrees and would love to hear your take on these studies.
-
bjmwilliamsWonderful!I’m really glad I found this podcast!

Mih_HallGood but getting exhausting…Aubrey and Michael can be hilarious, and the podcast is can be both informative and entertaining. I do take issue with the mockery of people’s experiences, which can be a bit dismissive (especially if it goes against their core belief system or their personal experiences). They also seem to question most scientific studies or findings (which is important to do) but at the same time use scientific studies or articles that are aligned with their own core beliefs pretty unquestionably. For example, they complained in the gender dysmorphia episode about all of the studies only talking to parents and not kids, but then IMMEDIATELY dismissed Delta’s experience because they did not like the conclusions Delta came to about their OWN experience. Additionally, as a person of color, it can be exhausting hearing Aubrey mention how marginalized we are all the time. For example, if a diet requires you to spend money at the grocery store or someone mentions people who eat fast food, she’ll be like “And who they’re really excluding are poor people of color.” or “who they’re really talking about when they say people who eat fast food are poor people of color.” Like girl I get it, but also, stop trying to sum up all of our experiences based on what you think you know about people of color’s experiences, situations, or interests (FYI plenty of black people are into wellness stuff too). This podcast has potential but I think they are too focused on proving how wrong every one is to really create a great podcast.
