    Interesting!
I’m listening to this as a lab person in the field for 20 years. I have an interest in all things medical and have a lot of great nurse colleagues. I did just listen to the transfusion reaction one and can confirm that the blood bank hates transfusion reactions just as much! One comment on the cause though—while it can be a blood draw or type & cross issue for a hemolytic reaction, I have unfortunately had several cases over my career where the nurse also gave the unit to the wrong patient. I am thinking that better technology and improved processes limit that cause more now than when I worked in the blood bank. Looking forward to your other episodes!

    So impressed!
All of your podcasts add to my knowledge! After seven plus years strictly as an RRT RN and six years prior to that intermittently filling that role, I find your kind and generous nature a “reset” to enable me to focus on finding ways to educate and ease the frustrations we so often run into.

    Inspiration!
This podcast has inspired me to go back to school for my bachelors in nursing after 13 years of being a nurse. I love nerding out and learning new things! Sarah, keep up the amazing work that you do! Your patients and podcast listeners are lucky to have you!

    New Nurse Skills Review
I LOVE this podcast. As I enter my second year of nursing, that deep understanding of pathophysiology becomes a bit more foggy over time so listening to one or two of these a week keeps me sharp to explain their conditions to patients, make evidence based decisions, and keep my book skills sharp. All while laughing and feeling seen and cared for.

    Thank you
This podcast is informative and relatable! Sarah has a variety of topics. I love that she talks about her own nursing experiences. It’s reassuring to hear from someone else and know what I am feeling at times is valid. Thank you, Sarah!!

    Thank you Sarah !
As a new grad straight into a rural, critical access ER, this podcast has transformed my confidence and competency as an emergency nurse. I love Sarah’s obvious kindness, curiosity, brilliance, story telling, emphasis on patho, and her passion for teaching and nursing. Hope to listen to this podcast for years to come.

    Best nursing podcast!
Finally found a nursing podcast that is both informative and fun! I LOVE the storytelling format - it really stimulates me to think critically as each case is presented but without feeling like I’m listening to a patho lecture. It’s so helpful as a new grad! And I especially appreciate hearing about how Sarah handles the non-medical side of nursing (e.g. interactions with families and other health care providers).

    Awesome Resource For Nurses!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this podcast! I’ve been a nurse for 2 years now but only work a few times a month so haven’t got a ton of experience with my rapid responses or codes. I used to go into my shift TERRIFIED of them but this podcast is AWESOME and helps me feel more confident in my nursing assessments and skills. The thought processes she goes through that she’s had in real life situations are awesome and will definitely help shift my thoughts to productive instead of panicked when my first code comes up someday! Thanks for this awesome podcast!

    Thank you
Thank you for speaking to the heart of what we do. There is a ton of value in this and is a helpful resource for understanding s/s and reversing deterioration by looking at treatable causes. Love this and recommend to all my RRT brethren!

    Preceptor podcast
Thank you so much for your amazing podcasts. I learn something every time!! I just listened to the preceptor podcast episode 113 and it was very helpful in bringing me awareness when I do start precepting. I am a new grad at 57! I have been on the MedSurg oncology floor for seven months now And just started getting nursing students assigned to me. Once I complete my first year in the transition into practice program, I will be qualified to precept. I did not have a good preceptor and I really want to be a positive role model for anyone that I teach. So thank you so much for this podcast. I will definitely be listening to it again!! ❤️

    Super educational nursing podcast
Sarah does an amazing job breaking down patient presentation, nurse’s response, expected treatments, communication tips, etc. As a new graduate nurse residency coordinator, I regularly recommend her podcasts to our new graduate nurses.

    Excellent
My friend in nursing school pointed me in this podcasts direction, and I’m so stoked to have found it. I first listened to two-part ARDS (53-54) and they were super helpful for my exam, but more importantly understanding more about respiratory care and ARDS. Also, just listened to sepsis episode and learned LR has a closer pH balance to blood than NS. So much good EBP on this podcast.

Great full breakdown from a nurse
I’m a medical podcast junky always looking for this depth from the perspective of a nurse that dives deep. The podcasts hosted by physicians are sometimes mostly focused on medications/treatment, but I want the whole picture. Especially assessment. Add this to your resource list fellow nurses. Sarah’s enthusiasm is much needed at all times, but especially now when nursing needs some positive uplifting.

    One day I’ll get there
I never thought that anyone would love to nerd out about nursing as much as I would. Everything that I crave to listen to is in this podcast. It’s got AMAZING explanations about pathophysiology, pharmacology, nursing skills, evidence based practice, and most importantly stories. Quick side note: I graduated nursing school, got pregnant, left bedside to grow my family, now work as nurse legal consultant. The schedule is soooo flexible and my co workers are great but… it’s not bedside nursing. My dream is to be an ICU nurse with some ER. But as of this season, my family needs me. In the meantime I’ll grow my knowledge. Get my BSN and any other certification I can. I really want to get to a positron where I can nerd out like Sarah and her colleagues. I don’t just want to be a satisfactory nurse. I want to be one of the kindest, knowledgeable and prepared nurses out there. I want to always stay humbled and understand that I’ll always need to learn. Thank you Sarah for being so great. I love your podcast and your guests are all amazing. You rock.

Just a spoonful of sugar -rectal prolapse
As a Rapid Response Nurse and some one with rectal prolapse after child birth, I caution you in how you advertise this predicament. It’s an incredibly painful and embarrassing complication that shouldn’t be used as an example as a funny situation in a podcast. Teaching other nurses that this is a crazy, unheard of experience that “oh my goodness, can you believe it?”, is not professional and not beneficial to the patient. Rectal prolapse is more common than you think, but usually manageable with high fiber diet and good bowel hygiene, not always complicated by external prolapse. I wouldn’t want to be this patient, knowing it’s now fodder for learning on a now sensationalized topic. I’m sure you were trying to be respectful when talking to the patient, but the giggles throughout your podcast depict otherwise and set an example of what you really think. You are the role model for lots of new nurses and please try to set an example to always be mindful in preserving patient dignity.
  • mediocoreme
