This is 10 for Teens + Tweens, a 10-ish minute podcast by Empowerful Girls that helps you grow curiosity, compassion, and confidence so you can take on the world!

Host Stephanie Valdez discusses positive themes and tackles tough topics, teaching girls how to handle them. She shares guidance on personal development, physical and mental health, relationships, and media literacy. She hopes every girl listening will accept and embrace herself (strengths and weaknesses), make stronger connections with friends and family, and be mindful with media. More than anything, Stephanie wants girls to know for themselves that they are enough.

Stephanie Valdez is the founder and director of Empowerful Girls. She has a degree in Communications and a background in Journalism. Stephanie is certified as a Girl Power Instructor, as well as in Social and Emotional Learning and Youth Mental Health First Aid.  She has years of experience mentoring teens and tweens, and is also raising her own.

    Episode topic
This topic is very sensitive but, self hate is an episode I personally would like this because I used to have great self esteem but I can not stress how badly it has plummeted since I got older. I hate my body and hate myself for hating myself and it’s just a cycle of hate. I know there must be something good about me otherwise I wouldn’t have friends or family that love me, but I don’t see it. My parents don’t want me on social media or following most trends but that makes me feel good ( they don’t want trends to affect my mental health). I also am looked over by most because I’m the nerd, or I’m the innocent little girl meant to sit there and be pretty. I want to do coding, or astrophysics, engineering, or even mathematics, and my family support me fully but society doesn’t. I feel like I was a mistake because I don’t fit society’s toxic mold. I am also criticized for my hobbies and “ obsessions” like plushies, crocheting, science, and reading. I’m sorry for the rant but I needed to get this off my chest and I know other girls have a lot of the struggles.

    THE BEST PODCAST 🙌
This is my absolute favorite podcast. I’m 14 years old and the topics this podcast covers are so relevant and helpful to me. My sister introduced to this podcast right before she left on a lds mission. Listening to it has helped me feel closer to my sister who is away at this time. It bring so much positivity in my life and I’m so grateful for it. She gives such good advice and exactly what teenage girls need in their life. I could not recommend it more, it’s the best. So thank you, this podcast is just what I needed as I’m going through a hard time in my life right now.

My name is Emma and this is my new favorite podcast, I have anxiety and ADHD so it’s hard to do much, I would like a podcast episode where you talk about being scared to speak out for yourself and pretending it’s okay even when it’s not because that is difficult for me. Love you and thank you ☺️

    I LOVE THIS PODCAST!!!
This is such a great podcast. I just finished the first episode and I am so glad I found this. Being a girl in middle school and having a voice in my head every day saying I am good at all. Having boys telling me I am a freak and even some girls telling me that I don’t belong, makes my days worse. Then I found this podcast! Having a podcast that only gives positive feedback, and vibes really helps with my thoughts and my emotions. It helps a lot when I have mean thoughts or interactions I can just brush it off and move on with my day. I have learned that I am worth a lot more than I thought I was. Thank you so much!

    THANKS!🌟 PLEASE READ!!!
Hi, my name is Emme (em - ee) and I just started listening to this podcast. I’ve really learned how to be more confident, and happy with who I am. Not caring about what anybody else says. Anyway, I’m not very athletic, and in Gym class I’m really struggling. We run a kilometer Every Monday, And everyone is SO fast! Some people run it in 2 mins, some people run in 3, But I run it in seven. Everyday after it, I come home crying to my mom. The worst part is I have no one there for me. My best friend is one of the faster runners, so she ditches me and runs with different people. I’ve tried talking to my gym teacher but It didn’t work. One time, I told my mom I had a cold, to get out of it. Please respond to this. Advice?

    You never know
My ADHD, and anxiety and depression disorder makes it hard to make friends at school. This podcast has really helped me come out of my shell. You never know you need help until someone like Steph comes and tells you positive things about yourself and makes you feel good. You never know what could be just around the corner of life. Like when you were little, and thought there were monsters under your bed, you need someone to help investigate. Same with life, you need someone to investigate and guide you to the best path around that corner. Bottom line, thank you for everything Steph, -Lauren😜

    I LOVE THIS!!!
I’m 13 1/2 and I’ve had most of the puberty stages! And I hate having conversations it’s so weird to me to talk about it with loved ones!! My mom gave me the basic facts about everything! (She knows I dislike have a conversation about it!) so I have been listening to this podcast and I can say I know everything there is to puberty! (Have started my period yet tho lol) and we also have these book from American girl about all this stuff too! That you can read about! But this podcast is amazing!!! I don’t know if she has made a confidence one but I hope so!!! Love this!!!❤️

    very encouraging pod, definitely recommend!!
hey stephanie! my mom and I have been listening to ten for teens + tweens for a while now, and i have improved so much as a person after listening to this. many, many of your episodes influenced conversations me and my mom have had over the past few months. i have a few episode suggestions, though, and I think they would help everyone -dealing with gender inequality at school or at work -girls are NOT just objects (ive noticed country singers and male pop stars objectifying girls and talking about them like they’re just there for men) -journaling!!! well, that’s all I gotta say for now! from, two very loyal listeners

    It okay!
I am not a huge fan of this podcast but it’s geared to more younger teens and tweens (like middle school young). It doesn’t exactly cover most the topics that teens go through toda ( depression, eating issues etc). But it’s definitely interesting and has helped me through my pre-teen and tween phases. Thank you Stephanie for this wonderful podcast you have made 🙂🙂🙂

    Can’t recommend enough
This is essential listening for those who want to feel empowered and confident in navigating the challenges (and amazing opportunities) of being a teenager. Stephanie kindly, compassionately and authentically guides girls through key topics, including body image, food, movement, and owning your uniqueness. I wish I had this resource as a teen and can’t recommend it enough!

Young girls need this so much right now!
I listened to this podcast with my two daughters, and it held such a great message for them, but also for me to remember as well. I love the book and movie recommendations at the end! And my girls loved the coloring page that went with the episode and had such fun coloring and personalizing it. I think listening to these episodes is going to become a really fun mother-daughter weekly ritual!
