The best of all possible podcasts, Leibniz would say. Putting big ideas in dialogue with the everyday, Overthink offers accessible and fresh takes on philosophy from enthusiastic experts. Great tone
Strikes a perfect balance between interrogating rich texts and providing modern contextualization. I tell my friends… this is the only Not-Annoying philosophy pod!

A struggling grad student’s favorite pasttime
I listen to this podcast every week on my commute to school!! It’s one of the most entertaining and intellectually stimulating shows I’ve listened to. David and Ellie are so down to earth and funny and can turn the most basic facts of our world into an incredibly fascinating and enriching discussion. I have always had an interest in philosophy but have been unsure about how I should get into it. David and Ellie turn “scary” and “impenetrable” philosophical ideas into something relatable to our everyday lives, and I often find myself thinking either “Wow, I’ve never thought of it that way before” or “This is something I think about often but that I’ve never heard expressed or vocalized by somebody else.” 11/10 would recommend to anyone who is a chronic overthinker or who has even a baseline interest in philosophy or else curiosity (and maybe complaints lol) about the human condition and our world. Props to David and Ellie for being great hosts as well.

    Older people exercising
I enjoy this show quite a bit, but every once in a while the hosts (and I guess this is unavoidable because they are both so young) slip into making generalizations about us older folks that strike me as naive and clueless (at best) Case in point on the exercise episode David comments on seeing older people in their sixties and seventies doing exercises that are intended to give a younger person a hotter body. He find this to be a kind of denial. While these hosts are excellent critical thinkers who are capable of identifying and laughing at their own assumptions, in the case of the old people assumptions I don’t see this awareness. I am 68. I go to the gym for all of the reasons talked about on the show. I look around the gym and see people my age and older taking care of themselves. Trying to stay strong so that they can stay as healthy and competent physically and mentally as possible. I realize this comment is kind of a buzz kill but I’m would encourage the hosts to take some care when tossing off comments about us old folks. :)

    AI could never

I’m obsessed with this podcast! I always come away with new ways of thinking about the topic in new ways. It’s also just so fun to listen to! The hosts do a great job of talking about the topics in accessible and entertaining ways

    Mind Food
These two crack me up and make me think about things that I’ve never ‘thought about thinking about.’ Metacognition joke aside, they present a great blend of humor and information along with a wide array of topics. The banter between the hosts when discussing deeply polarizing topics (like a vegetarian and a meat eater discussing animal rights) is always respectful and frankly, a model that evolved beings should use to discuss important subjects. In a digital landscape flooded with lowbrow content - Overthink stands out as exceptional. Thanks Drs. Anderson and Peña-Guzman for the effort you put into this.

    Great
Very well done and accessible! I think there is a good mix of humor and on-topic-ness. Would recommend to anyone, but worth noting these are more philosophical conversations rather than conversations about philosophy; a lot of philosophy podcasts are the latter, so this one probably keeps more people interested!

If someone could AI-generate a podcast specifically for me, this is what it would sound like
I only recently discovered this podcast, but I already feel like I need to write a review. This show is just a perfect mix of chatty, culturally-critical, and intellectually meaningful. It’s juicy enough that I want to listen to it while cleaning etc, but I still feel like I take away something tangible from each episode. Ps: Ellie and David, if you ever wanted to accept new teaching positions in the next 2 years at say, Oberlin College, I would not be mad…..

    Love love love!
I love this podcast so much! As someone who knows literally nothing about philosophy, Ellie and David breakdown topics really well and make it very approachable. I like the way the episodes are structured such that they introduce philosophical readings but contextualize it with real-world examples. Also, Ellie and David are such fun hosts!!!

    A refuge for the mind
I finally feel like there are people how think like me in the world. Tho non of us think alike, I have always been accused of overthinking and now I want to get a PhD in philosophy too.

    Makes me think
I’m never disappointed when I listen to Overthink. It helps me think in complicated ways and I love Ellie and David’s art of respectful argument. How often are we guided through a careful analysis of a topic unless we’re in a philosophy class? What a great way to use our minds.

    Super Smart, Beautifully Crafted
I listen to a handful of philosophy podcasts and this might be my favorite. What blows me away is just how beautifully crafted every episode is: each episode seamlessly weaves together a variety of ideas and thinkers around a single topic in a way that borrows the best of text-centric philosophy podcasts (like partially examined life) and story-based philosophy podcasts (like hi-phi nation). Also Ellie and David have a great rapport and seem like they honestly enjoy cracking each other up and I dig that.

    Nuanced Philosophical Perspectives
I’m really appreciating how Ellie and David delve into real world contexts and ask us to consider our assumptions and where those assumptions come from.

    Philosophy can be fun!
I didn’t realize academic philosophers can be so funny! I laugh at personal observations one minute, then I’m hearing about how it fits into traditions of philosophical traditions and it’s all so interesting. Thanks for doing this.
