Satanic Panic

29

Throughout the 1980s, Satanic cults were widely believed to be preying on children — torturing and terrorizing them as part of dark rituals. Across North America, there were hundreds of false allegations, scores of unjust criminal trials and countless lives torn apart. But never any real proof. By the early 90s, the panic reached the tiny Prairie town of Martensville, Saskatchewan. And nearly 30 years later, the people touched by it all are still picking up the pieces. So what happened? And why do so many still believe to this day? Uncover: Satanic Panic investigates. For the best in true crime from CBC, ad-free, visit apple.co/cbctruecrime.

    Highly recommended
Amazing podcast. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

    Brilliant
So engaging, educational, fair and moving. It pretty much blew me away.

    Excellent
This was beautifully done, and horrifying that some major players still can’t face the truth. In 2022, teachers are being accused of “grooming” and other ridiculous and trumped up offenses, when the true dangers are still in the home.

    Really good and quite thorough!
This was exceptional, the quality of the episodes are well researched and the host does a great job letting the story take center stage. Excellent!

    If It Autoplayed In Order…
I’m not entirely sure what the issue is, but no matter how I sort the episodes, they only play from 7-1 and not 1-7. This is so terribly annoying that I can’t keep listening to this. I’ll keep listening to the saved episodes from the Uncover podcast instead. With that said, this case deserves this attention and this podcast is beautifully made and is something amazing to search and reveal all the travesties that happened during this terrible era.

Important piece of history that has been buried
This is an important story that has been buried or ignored for 25 years! As a therapist I have witnessed many lives being destroyed when my profession “recovers memories of ritual abuse.” This is a complex issue that is still impacting thousands of people today and no one is talking about it because of course we want to believe and support survivors. The podcast does a good job of representing multiple viewpoints.

    Gave it A Second Listen
I remember listening to the series the first time and not paying too much attention to it but found myself bored and re listened/ it’s pretty compelling . Such a strange and sad story. It’s definitely an interesting topic and the host does a good job with the detailed interviews

    Great story, okay storytelling
It’s probably just a personal thing, but I found the narrators way of speaking distracting. Lots of pauses after every other word or so to try to create drama. The affect wears off after the first 15 minutes.

Best podcast I’ve heard on the subject, but over-produced
Excellent podcast thst is well researched, solidly reported and well edited. My only complaint is that I found the stark, sensationalistic horror movie-style sound design effects and spooky music to be over the top and cheapens the seriousness of the subject matter.

    I binged it, excellent
I’ve listened to 100’s of podcasts. This one is so well produced and narrated. I listened to a CBC podcast just before this one. It was equally as good, which led me to look for another CBC podcast. I’m in Pennsylvannia, so it’s not a case a Canada favoritism. The work these folks do is superior.

    Truly evil
Whoever is behind this is truly evil. You are a mouthpiece for Satan himself.
