Hackers, North Korea and billions of dollars. Lazarus returns – in fact, the criminals never went away. Season 2 begins at an ATM, possibly near you. With Jean Lee and Geoff White. Investigators claim a secretive, elite North Korean hacking ring, nicknamed the Lazarus Group, is responsible for the theft of billions of dollars around the globe. Pyongyang denies having anything to do with cybercrimes, saying the United States is making these allegations to try to tarnish its image. Great storytelling and captivating topic
Storytelling is just great, the host do an amazing job to tell a very complicated story and to give the right amount of context and back story. The topic is fascinating, even for people like me that knows nothing about cybersecurity. I enjoyed the podcast and binge listen!

    Fascinating
Excellent series, very revealing insights into a dangerous adversary…but still manages to be entertaining.

    A lucky find
Came across this podcast by sheer chance and within one day went through all of its episodes…not only is it grabbing in the way it’s narrated, I very much enjoyed the historic context and the various perspectives shared.

    A culmination of a life’s work
This is everything I want in a podcast: twists and turns, great storytelling, new fascinating information! One host have spent a lot of their career in North Korea, and has amazing witnesses and speakers come on the show. I have read many defector stories but none of them reveal the info about the North Korea that this show drives into! I couldn’t stop listening.

After 2.5 episodes, exciting and fair portrayal
I’ve only heard the first 2 or 3 episodes of season one, but season one is exciting, interesting, and even-handed, mostly “just the facts, ma’am”. This renews my interest in North Korea’s state-run criminal enterprises.

    Great Pod but for Bolton
Great pod but loses a star for giving a platform to John Bolton. Saying he’s a “Hawk” isn’t enough to caveat the opinion of a man responsible for millions of senseless deaths.

4 stars because season 1 was better than 2
Season 1 was incredible, 5 stars, and season 2 had potential; however, the hosts mannerisms seriously devalue the content of the show. The female host uses an unnatural and forced cadence and inflection in her speech patterns, and the male host has an aggressively obvious speech impediment (he can’t say his Rs and instead pronounces them like Ws). There is a possibility that this R-W swap is a lesser known British accent, but either way, unfortunately, his way of speaking is distracting, and a more suitable host definitely should have been chosen. Aside from these critiques, the show has a lot of interesting and detailed information on the previously secret financial operations and crimes the Hermit Nation conducts to keep their missile program afloat. It’s really intriguing to learn about the lengths that North Korea will resort to to secure funds. Overall I enjoyed this podcast, despite its hosts.

    Great Show
My friend recommended this podcast to me and it’s been a real eye opener to what’s going on not too far from me here in China. Such a fascinating story.

    Fantastic
I just found this podcast and love it!

    Thrills, Spills, and Dastardly Deeds!
No, this podcast is not totally about Crypto Currency; it is an international cyber mystery full of shady, colorful characters, historic moments, one or two rogue governments and a back door look into the world of Cyber terrorism. Without these two remarkable tour guides to lead you through the labyrinth, it would be just another dry BBC documentary. Not so. The unique backgrounds of the hosts help listeners understand the story about one the of the greatest criminal enterprises in the world: The North Korean Government. A must-listen series that will get you hooked.

    Meandering dialog
i was hopeful. But the story tellers have this ability to transform what should be a concise thought to a six minute dialog full of adjectives, adverbs, unrelated items to the story theme. So much of this show is just pure anti north korea propaganda. Don't get me wrong, I already believe North Korea is an evil empire. So I do not need this to be reconfirmed over and over again in the story. Just give me the hacker story ...

    Season 1 >>> Season 2
I finally took the time to listen to this podcast starting two weeks ago and loved season 1. Season 2 however is mostly filler that deemphasizes hacking and cybercrime in favor of a draw out geopolitical narrative centered on North Korea more generally. There simply isn’t enough recent cybercrime directly attributable to the DPRK for this podcast to carry on claiming it is about the titular hacking group. They had a good run, but should either rebrand or put a pin in the subject until there is enough to talk about to justify a full season.

Season 2 is a must listen
I enjoyed listening to Season 1 and Season 2 has not disappointed. I really like how the hosts discussed at length several different criminal schemes the Lazarus Group and their associates engaged in. Excited to see how Season 2 ends.

    Excellent!!
This podcast gives listeners a fascinating insight into North Korea. I love that the hosts mix history and fascinating personal stories into the larger financial narrative. As someone who knows nothing about computer code, hacking, or crypto—I was still utterly hooked! More episodes please!!

    Interesting but…
The hosts are kinda awful One keeps chewing up their lines, the other tries too hard to sound like they’re sexing the microphone. Also, it’s getting progressively boring, but whatever, if you’ve got time to kill it’s ok

    Intriguing and well presented
Now when I read the overview of cyber attacks I wasn’t so interested as I am not overly technical. But I listened to the intro and the presenters caught my attention so I thought I would listen for episode 1 and then see. Next thing I knew I was binge listening to it. It is well researched, engaging, rather scary learning about hacks and I have recommended it to a few friends who also think it is worth your time to listen.

    Exposes a blindside
Great reporting on a subject that will continue to be a player on the international stage.

    Love it
In season 1 episode 8 they said that the hackers spelled a word wrong. Would the hackers have spellcheck?

    Lazarus Heist Season 2
Very disappointed with Season 2 The Narrators are speaking so fast can hardly understand them.. What happened? Why must they speak so quickly.
  • gg.s.y
    Poor production quality
The overly dramatic music clips are a distraction and make the entire show hard to listen to. I was immediately put off by this amateurish production gimmick. So unlike the minimal quality of BBC news podcasts.
  • JWPicktown
    Getting even better
Season 1 was great and if Episode 1 of Season 2 is an indication, Season 2 will be even better. Gripping content.
  • LadyDamselfly
    Worth every second
Incredibly gripping, and simultaneously impressive, scary, and fascinating investigative journalism surrounding a North Korean hacker group. This is one of my top favorite podcasts.
  • Slanebrain
Content’s good but Way Too Much Filler
Content is great but you’ve salted the episodes with an egregious percentage of filler.
  • RyanMKE
    Distracting narrative
Cool story gets 3 stars. Dueling narrative between a British man with a gnarly speech impediment (obviously nothing he can do about it, but maybe shouldn't be doing audio anything) and a woman who sounds like a bad radio drama voice actor both distract from the story.

    Really cool podcast
My only irk was the recitation of Soviet propping up of Kim as ruler of NK. He had way more legitimacy than Syngman Rhee, who was actually a puppet. Any way - didn’t turn out great for either side for a while. But it would be fun in Noeth Korea came back into the world. Hello guys! Come back!

    Wow
Such a rare gem of a podcast. I usually love the things the BBC world service puts out- but to say I just love this would be an understatement. It is FASCINATING. Not only bc North Korea seems so dark and scary, but just the intricacy of everything involved. There are so many moving parts, you would think it would be easy to get lost, but the story telling and production quality of this podcast is top tier , and they weave it all together into a beautiful tapestry of espionage, courage, and might (among other things. ) Listen to this. You will not regret it

    Live episode
I enjoyed the other episodes but when the host advised the Mandiant employee he should retire the ma’am I lost interest. It appears one person can say something respectful and it will offend another… the Mandiant employee is providing more value to society that the host who corrected him.

    Another winner from the BBC!
Really enjoyed the storytelling, music and insight of this awesome podcast. Highly recommended.

    Male host needs speech therapy
The Rs are said like a W. Example, pwessure instead of pressure, pwove instead of prove. Hard to listen to

    More B B C
The guy girl true crime format was a bit hard to get to used at first. Enjoyed the story and the investigative journalism. Wish the BBC would move to 45mins for their podcasts and they would give Louis Theroux a podcast.

Amazing podcast. So happy it was extended into a book (which just arrived yesterday).

Very cool story but dueling narration is redundant and grating at times.
