Gray Havens PodcastBest podcastthe best podcast I’ve listened to I have gone to the Minneapolis concert four years in a row!!!!!!!
-
Jezreel68Fantastic!Not sure how I missed this for so long, but this is the biggest treat. Dave does such a great job both at interviews and commentary on his own music. I am not a musician in the slightest but I find the process he describes to be so fascinating. I particularly love the format of breaking it into two main parts: the lyrics side and the music side. Well done, Gray Havens. 💕 You guys have been blessing my socks right off for so many years now that you feel like the oldest friends I have never actually met (except that VIP experience in Huntington Beach, CA). God bless your family.

Critic 5 starEnlighteningThis podcast has cleared up the questions I’ve had about the full meaning and inspiration behind all the lyrics. Each song has so much hidden meaning that I love to find out and enjoy, like a sweet dessert to my ears. I hope this podcast continues and we get to hear how they made the previous albums “Ghost of a King” (my favorite) and “She Waits” (my second favorite)! 😁

Jammer M.BReally great!Love this band and their wonderful/meaningful words. This is great because now you can fully appreciate the words they poured heart into.
-
AdamStockingGreat look behind the curtainI found the Gray Havens several years ago and it quickly became one of my favorites. (If you haven’t heard their earlier albums, stop reading and go listen NOW!!!). As far as the podcast goes, I am greatly enjoying the stories behind the songs, and, as a musician/singer myself, also the explanation of the production of the songs themselves. Keep up the great work, Dave and Licia!

bnr_143InterestingThis has been so interesting. I really enjoy getting to see behind the scenes, and it has increased my enjoyment of the album in general!! I wish more artists did this.
-
JonnyMASEThe Gray Havens Super fan and moreThis podcast is great for any The Gray Havens fan as it explores the depths of Dave’s lyrical genius and more. I’m excited to hear more with upcoming guests.
-
The Music GardenerIntriguing!Love Dave’s voice and his approach to sharing insights about the recording process & inspiration for the songs he writes & records.

GrayHavensfanSister in ChristWhat an amazing pod!! Love it so much, definitely excited to see if they go more in depth with other albums!!!

CalebizzyThe podcast I didn’t know I neededThis podcast really helped me get the most out of the album. I wish that more artists did this type of stuff. Sometimes lyrics these days are so abstract and referential that it’s really hard to understand what the songs are actually about. Loved hearing Dave explain the thinking behind the lyrics and sounds. Really well structured, reminded me of a longer more thorough Song Exploder.

dincanadaEye openingI absolutely love to learn how the songs come into being created. I could make up my own interpretation of a song, but to know the writers intention is huge! I so appreciate these podcasts. I will be in Birmingham later this month to see them in concert, can’t wait! 😊 I cant believe he didn’t point out the trumpet in Tread the Dawn! It’s my favorite part!

Grc316Thank your for sharing your inspiration! My daughters (8yo and 12yo) and I have been huge fans from the beginning and we have been looping this album (Blue Flower) since it launched. It is beautiful, passionate, unique and soul stirring! Your writing has always felt very intentional and getting the opportunity to hear the interpretation from the writer is truly a blessing. Thanks for taking the time to communicate with the world and for sharing your family’s gifts with us! God Bless

Mcubed1010We Want More!!!More artists should do this. Now I wish The Gray Havens had podcast series for all of their previous albums too. Love knowing the “behind the scenes” of my favorite songs. Such an enhancing experience!

aneliza23So beautiful.I have enjoyed listening to the podcast. I loved learning the back story of each song. It made me love the songs even more. It also made me read c.s. Lewis autobiography. I also love the spiritual aspect that these songs have. I saw the gray havens in concert a few weeks ago and can’t wait to see them again. God Bless!
-
JustJoy432Beautiful and joyful!I love this podcast! It has been so fun listening behind the scenes. It has increased my love for the album and made listening to it a richer experience. I have been so ministered to by the music and here I thought I couldn’t fall in love with it more!
-
SpellmanchrisLove this podcast!I agree with another reviewer that I wish every musical artist would record podcast episodes like this. So great to hear about the lyrical and music genesis of these awesome songs on what, in my opinion, is the greatest Gray Havens album yet!
-
BUBBUAThe Good StuffOther than hearing Dave rap, this pod gets some of the best “live concert” concert vibes into this pod by talking about the songs. Love it! Keep it up y’all.

*hek*Felt Like an Insider!I went to the concert you had with JMM in Kansas City, and I will be back for more for sure! This podcast really made me feel like an insider - I was ridiculously excited when each song came on because I got to hear all the little details that you guys mentioned in the podcast come to life on stage. Also, I don’t really think you should change a thing about how you do this podcast. You are very relatable in the little mistakes, side stories, and nerd-out moments. I also ADORE when you have your wife (and kiddo) weigh in on your music. I hope I get to see you perform with your wife in April when you come back to KC!
-
youcouldntstopmeGreat Podcast for an amazing albumThe album is fantastic. Love hearing the backstory to making the album. I hope the remaining 6 songs will be covered in future episodes.

LaodeejayAmazingOh my word, can every musical artist do this for new albums?! This is such an amazing idea. I listen to several podcasts, and this is honestly one of the most fascinating listens. I love hearing the how’s and why’s behind these songs, the symbolism and inspirations, and how you play the song at the end of the episode. The only problem is that I’m going to run out way too quickly! Crossing my fingers for more seasons about other albums. 10/10 recommend.
-
Bobdude115Great!I love your music! It has been very cool hearing how you were inspired for each of the songs and how the lyrics came to fruition. I also really like how you bring out some of the interesting background sounds and carry some of the main themes throughout the songs in the album Blue Flower. Keep it up:)
-
PerformanteFanBoyPerfectionI’ve always loved your guys’ music, and your new songs especially, so to have these songs broken down and analyzed is so special, and it provides a whole new way of listening to them. Keep it up!
-
Ataren7Encouraging beautiful musicI love your music and I’m so glad to get this behind-the-scenes look at your songwriting, creative process, and the depth of meaning in your songs. Your songs are beautiful and increase my faith and this podcast increases the meaning and encouragement tenfold. Thank you. P.S. I love all the “nerdy” details.
-

-
MarkusmbpLove it!My family loves your music and thoroughly enjoys this peek behind the scenes to understand the inspiration behind the lyrics. Your songs are so beautifully rich - thanks for sharing your gift and hard work.

aubrynnwLove love love it!!No band or artist has ever made me long for the new heavens and earth as The Gray Havens have. Their album Blue Flower is no different, and this podcast explores the ideas and writing process behind the album. If you like to know more about the songs you listen to (especially as theologically- and lyrically-rich as these) this podcast is a must! Also, it may make you want to read C. S. Lewis’ Surprised by Joy, the book which inspired these songs.
-
EllieluciTips? This is an awesome podcast-thanks for sharing the inspiration from your songs! Can I give you some tips though? I am not a podcaster-but I am I listener-here’s my two sense 1. Talk faster-don’t second guess your words! If you mispronounce something, most likely nobody will care or nobody will even notice 2. Be sure of yourself 3. Don’t repeat yourself or give unnecessary info You are doing great for your first podcast!! Keep it up! ~Aniana Gray
