Hosted by Deb Freeman, Setting the Table is a podcast that explores the stories and histories of African American cuisine and foodways. From Sunday barbeques to the spirits in your cocktails, African Americans have created the foundation of modern American cuisine, yet African American food is one of the least explored food genres. Setting the Table illuminates the ways that African Americans have shaped how this country eats and drinks by exploring the historical events that have influenced the formation of Black foodways in America while also drawing a direct line to the people who are moving the Black culinary narrative forward.Setting the Table is part of Whetstone Radio Collective. Whetstone Radio Collective creates storytelling dedicated to food origins and culture, with original content centering the perspectives of global majority populations and diasporas. You can learn more about this podcast at whetstoneradio.com, on Twitter @whetstoneradio, on TikTok and Instagram @whetstonemedia and subscribe to our Spotify and YouTube channel, Whetstone Media, for more podcast content. Look Forward to More
So few people even consider the origin stories of our food in this country. Lots of misconceptions flow through the community or honestly just no thoughts about it at all. I’m so excited for a podcast that doesn’t just focus on food in the US but specifically food as it’s been influenced by Black Americans. This will be a beautiful ride. May you have a wildly successful podcast.

    Warm and Comforting
This podcast combines two of my favorite topics Black History and food. This podcast feels like hot soup on a cold winter day. I welcome and appreciate the continued knowledge of African American cuisine and how it’s shaped what we know as American cuisine. Love the podcast. Can’t wait to hear more.

    Food History at its Finest.
The first episode discusses how barbecue and Black food became to be a staple in American culture. The history behind that knowledge is fascinating; the anthropological history of a people and how they shaped the palette of this nation is definitely worth listening to.

Deliciously deep dive into the history, culture, and traditions of African American foodways, past and present. Food and cooking, agriculture and gardening, famous chefs and underknown culibarians, food producers, caterers and writers —- it’s a feast! Deb Freeman hosts us with exuberance and insight, as her eloquent guests share their expertise and the music flows beautifully —- I am hungry for More!

Just finished the first episode and I can’t wait for more! Reminded me very much of what I loved about High on the Hog. So good, and presented in an easily digestible format (no pun intended).
