    In need of exposition.
They just randomly are in a new setting and you have to figure that out or more likely, get lost.

    Too hard to follow
I have loved all the other violet hout podcasts but this one is just too hard to follow. It jumps around a ton and there’s far too many characters to keep in check. Also uses a bunch of made up space words which would make sense if we could maybe see those things to put a name to something but in a podcast, it just adds to the confusion. Sadly disappointed with this one

    Good but Speratic
So production and staff wise it’s pretty good. How ever, it moves around to fast and jumps around. I had a really hard time following the story and the main characters motivation. The crew was more or less cannon faughter. Ending was a bit cheesy. Over all this is not something that I liked. It did meet the requirements for sifi but not sifi horror. In short descriptions were lacking but if it were to be moved to a Tv show or animated series it may be the better choice

    Completely unengaging
This show is the dullest thing written. It presents itself as a sci-fi horror, with a name like hollow, but nothing remotely resembling horror. It feels so disconnected to the writers, the voice actors, to the scene. Their are too many characters to keep track of other than the lead Amelia and the voice actors deliver their lines like it’s their first take. The writing is so uninteresting and so flat. Amelia is hired as an escort to find a guy to be an engineer of a ship to find another guy. It can’t be understood. They keep bringing up Romans as if it means anything. Did the Roman Empire develops space travel? Are they comparing the corporations to them? The pacing is so terrible, I can’t tell if we are on a plane or in the recesses of space. At one point a ship crashes and they act like it’s the end of the world, next scene they’re at a bar and everything is fine. Whenever their is an alien, the only way to tell they are an alien is by their filtered voice. No description whatsoever. In total this story lacks any form of depth, talent, or direction.

    Apocalypse Now in Space!
The story is basically Apocalypse Now in space, better to watch the original than listen to someone space knockoff.

Great writing style very reminiscent of the movie apocalypse now. Very riveting

Not a lot of bang for the buck
It’s pretty clear a lot of production value and talent went into sound design, editing and voice acting. Yet the writing and pacing is absolute bottom shelf and completely incoherent. I couldn’t make it past the 3rd episode. It’s honestly really sad.

    Garbage
    1. This podcast does a terrible job of letting you know who is talking. Can’t even follow the plot. 2. I understand one of the characters has tinnitus, but surely you realize that playing a high pitched ringing noise AGAIN AND AGAIN in every single episode is unpleasant for listeners? Now I have tinnitus too, thanks.

    Underwhelming
    Storyline is choppy and uninteresting.

    Plot and timeline very confusing
I loved the concept and story idea but the execution was horrendous. The storyline can barely be followed, the characters are not defined well or identified in scenes, and the timeline is confusing at best. This story needs a major rewrite.
  • CrispySpringRoll
Amazing concept, great voice acting and production values but…
The story jumps around too much. This lack of continuity and context makes the plot too confusing to follow at times. I say this as someone who enjoys non-linear/non-traditional narrative structures in film and tv! The way the story is presented here in audio format just misses the mark for me.

    Apocalypse Now?
    Interesting take on Apocalypse Now

    Huh?
Want to like this as I have your other podcasts but I agree with several other reviewers that it’s very difficult to understand what’s happening. Timeline jumps, nothing is really explained about the world that’s been created, I actually find it very hard to believe that the 5-star reviewers could actually give a summary of this.

    Unbearable
Constant jumps from scene to scene with no apparent timeline. I really tried because the story could have been soooo good

I really want to like it…. But .:.
Story line seems cool, but I’m Also not quite sure what it is? I really tried to listen and always felt like I was missing half the script. Scenes jump with no timeline, no introduction to new characters, no context. Continuously confused as to how long it’s been and what we are doing. Actors seem convincing, which is quality on a podcast, but just like the other few REAL, Genuine reviews… I can’t really give a fair rating since i have no idea what’s going on.

    Potential
This One has so much potential but the plot gets lost in the script. This is audio, you have to lead your audience a bit more . Describe your surroundings and location. I know it’s dragging if you get bogged down in details but we need more information. Having knowledge of the original story helps but with out it I think most listening would be completely lost half way through. I do love the setting of the story and bold retelling. The cast is large and mostly talented with only a few weak spots. My advice next time slow down tell the story develop the characters and keep the action hot and fast. Three stars maybe generous but I give credit for retelling this story in such a bold way.

    Almost good…
Like the voice actors but no clue what’s going on about half the time. Seems to jump plot lines erratically and have to assume what happened after a scene occurs

    Interesting but confusing
I really liked this one at the start, but around episode 7 I started getting really lost in parts. I would rewind to see if I missed something but was just as confused. With a good amount of characters doing different things, we really need more clarity in the transition to an action scene. If that were fixed, I think this was great. But the confusion is enough for me to not want to keep listening, unfortunately.

    profanity
if it wasn't for th f bomb being dropped ever other word it might be good. i gave it 2 stars only becuase i liked the 1st episode other wise it would have been 1 star or less if i could.

    Not so sure
So I’m not so sure about this one. The setting seems amazing and intricate. But I literally have no idea what’s going on in most episodes. Someone else posted a comment about jumping ahead with no explanation and I agree. This seems like it might have been a good story but not in this format. Maybe with a second listen I’ll edit this but right now? It’s not that good from a starting point that could have been amazing.

Excessive high pitched tones to simulate tinnitus is unbearable
Mediocre writing aside, constant tones above ~15k is incredibly irritating and makes the show entirely unlistenable.

    Hearts of Darkness
This is a fun retelling of Joseph Conrad’s Hearts of Darkness. Definitely a fun listen.

    Super Immersive
The music and well scripted, fast paced dialogue combine to create a feeling that you’re inside of the production. Probably the coolest effect I’ve seen in the podcast world. I like the sci-fi piece too since it makes it feel less scary. Will be actively awaiting the next episode!

    Hollow
Loved this podcast!! It was suspenseful and well produced. The Violet Hour just keeps cranking out winners!! Can’t wait to hear the rest!!
  • Sensei834
Wild concept that has already paid off
Obviously there’s only been two episodes so far, but this take on “Heart of Darkness” has a sci-fi twist to it that’s very enticing. Can’t wait to see where it goes next.
  • Murph1283
    Best new sci-fi podcast
This show is the perfect blend of action and sci-fi. Exactly what I’ve been looking for in a podcast! It makes me feel like I’m in it with them.
  • JoeSimpson42
Okay. There are some positives and some negatives
So the original group of 5 star reviews seem rather fishy to me. I’m thinking someone gave people a kickback for a 5 star review. Anyway, the main actress is pretty good, and the storyline itself could be good. The dialogue seems forced at times. Others it seems as though people are reading from a page. The production overall is weak. Sound effects are stifled and not believable, people talking normally while they are supposed to be running, etc. There are also several points throughout many episodes where the story seems to skip parts, like it doesn’t explain how they got from one situation to the next. I’ll probably finish out the show because I only have 2 episodes left. But this is anything but a ‘must listen’.

Really intriguing first episode! I may just have to shell out for the rest of the season…

You can tell this was really made for horror fans. SO good.

If you’re a fan of Hellraiser you should for sure check this out.
Always looking for interesting horror podcasts and into this retelling of a classic. Maybe I’ll even try to binge more this weekend!
  • Cinderella
    Very fun sci fi podcast
Only listened to episode 1 so far but am loving this. Really makes me feel like I’m on a different planet and the story is simple enough to follow but I’m intrigued with where it’s going. Plus Pinhead as the scary villain? Can’t wait for more episodes!!!
  • I'm not Kurt Russell or Am I?
Solid existential creeping dread … in space!
That. Yes. I must reiterate - Hollow is solid existential creeping dread. Nicely done! For fans of Saturn 3, Ridley Scott, and A24.
