Good balance of storytelling without being gruesome

Love the variety and firsthand interviews of the survivors. Would it be possible to add some experts at the end giving us pointers for the best ways to handle ourselves if we encounter these emergencies? It would lower the anxiety that always builds up while listening.

Insensitive timing?

I love this podcast, but today I listened to the latest release about David & Charlie Finlayson’s rock climbing incident. There was something that made me google the story afterwards…come to find out David Finlayson sadly passed away a month before this podcast episode :( I’m not sure how I feel about the story being shared and emphasizing how he’s still alive, only to find out that he passed away before the episode was even released.

This is definitely one of my favorite podcasts. John Hopkins has a great voice and is super easy and nice to listen to. The production is wonderful and I love the subtle music and sound effects in the background. The people that these stories are about are true survivors that endured horrific things. Very inspiring.

Really amazing stories and amazing host. He does such a good job at interspersing his narrating with these survivor’s storytelling. Both my husband and I are obsessed and sitting firmly at the edge of our seats each entire podcast! Excellent stuff.

Gripping from beginning to end.

John has the perfect voice for fast paced true-life adventures. He blends his storytelling skills with the accounts of the actual survivors - some even decades later. Every one of his survivors seems utterly doomed and fated to die, and yet their perseverance, grit and will to survive payoff. My favorite episodes: the hippo, the oregon fire, savannah plane crash, yacht on a the high seas, plane crash on the high sierras and more! Brilliant nailbiting entertainment and storytelling! Please Keep them coming! Im addicted and have gotten my husband hooked too.

This is without a doubt my favorite pod cast of all time. There is so much deep wisdom in the stories and reflections of people who live their lives to the full, and especially poignant moments when they are in the edge of death but somehow continue living. It’s incredible.

OH. MY. GOD.

The paraglider story had me feeling that cold. I hope her belief goes beyond saying “IF” there is a God. There’s no luck involved in her astonishing survival. The Lord works in mysterious ways. This was divine intervention. Hopefully she never asks if there is a God again. This was the first episode I listened to. I’m hooked already on this podcast!! You gotta keep the faith.

Storytelling at its best

I love the color and emotion created with the story telling here. Maybe branch out into history, the ivory hunting in Greenland or the north west passage, desert survival or stranded on an island. Lots of stories in the historical record.

well narrated and researched stories, but subtracting a star for the dead air moments. dont know if they're trying to build suspense but they are too long to the point i wonder if the podcast cut off.

This is a top quality podcast. Narrator does a spectacular job of stating the facts and keeping an even professional tone that is pleasant to listen to despite whoever is telling their survival story. There is a wide range of stories, most that include good information should anyone find themselves in need of surviving themselves. Highly entertaining, ‘hard to put down’.
