    More Than Weird Stories
Come for the HP Lovecraft knowledge, stay for the two fantastic hosts! The show starts out with HP Lovecraft stories, then leads to HPL adjacent stories and beyond. These two hosts have been at it for many years and have a great system going. If you have a favorite weird fiction author that is no longer with us (they don’t do live authors), they have likely done at least one of their stories. If you have any interest in HPL or the show in general, listen to the Shadow Over Innsmouth episodes. That’ll be a “quick” way to tell if it’s worth your time.

    Great 👍🏻
I will never read Lovecraft’s work, but I am curious as to what it’s all about. This is a spectacular way to do that. Thanks for creating this!

    We always have Lovecraft
A throwback to a time when Chad and Chris were fun, didn’t walk on eggshells to avoid a cry bully and did it for the love.Excellent evergreen content.

    Addictive
The readers for the excerpts bring Lovecraft’s words to eerie life. The discussions are light in tone and entertaining but take the works seriously.

    Love this show
These guys are so creative and funny! I just relistened to their entire run on HP Lovecraft & was reminded how much I enjoy their discussions. Keep it up and good luck with the name change!

    Strange Studies of Strange Stories
Long time listener - first time reviewer. The old tried and true format has been great guys - I’ve been listening in real time since you were first reading the HPL stories and have loved it all. Looking forward to how the new “format” will change things and I’m excited to hear what new stories this will bring.

    Love it!
    Great show. Keep it up!

Worth all of the time you can give it
It’s not often that you come across a podcast where the hosts banter and insight is as entertaining or frequently more entertaining than the subject materials itself. This is one of those podcasts

    Love this
Just discovered this podcast so started at the beginning. Really helps a person digest lovecraft stories . My only recommendation would be to read the entire story .

    The Colossus
The Colossus was friggin’ NUTS! Loved it!

    Very enjoyable
From the go the hosts are a delight - hitting the ground running and never letting you down as they guide the listener through some serious dense and interesting material. I bounced off Lovecraft as a teen - tough for a young girl to get past his total lack of decent female characters in his classic tales… but I’m glad to take a tour of his work here on this most excellent literary podcast. I’ve listened through the Lovecraft-casts at least twice. The stand alone readings are also wonderful. Great work!

    Okay.. not great..
Unfortunately, the hosts are a little lackadaisical and casual about investigating these stories. The insights provided are usually obvious conclusions that an average reader would arrive at. So, it's okay but lacking in depth. I will cite a comment I just found odd during the Polaris episode, “I wouldn’t read this unless you're a huge Lovecraft fan.” I loved this short piece by Lovecraft, and found it to be a haunting piece of dream writing, with great insight into the man’s neurosis and subconscious, however, the hosts choose to hover over it all so lightly until ‘racism’ is brought up, a subject which you could tell truly got them excited to signal their woke aptitude to spot and root it out. We get it! You're not racist. Cool 👍 neither is the readership. Lovecraft is horror and fantasy, people come to it to escape the veil of terrestrial existence to the sublime and the inexplicable, and it's a shame a podcast cannot simply be something that shares in that love. I'm not a devotee to this podcast, so the insight may get better, but as of right now, I'm not really inclined or motivated to listen further.

    Wonderful Listening
I love listening to this podcast when I’m sculpting. It’s interesting and fun! The hosts have a great camaraderie (and corny puns, haha) and do a good job of surmising the stories.

One of my all time favorites
This show is one that I’m a huge fan of! The hosts are knowledgeable on the topics and stories, have a knack for presenting the stories in a really entertaining and fun way, and have a wide variety of literature and authors that they pull from The last point is a big one for me. I initially began listening because I’m the only one in my friend group who’s a Lovecraft fan, and I wanted to hear some good discussions of his work. I found that and much more! I’ve learned about so many fantastic stories and authors from this podcast that I may never have found on my own, and for that, I’m truly grateful This is pretty much as good as a literature podcast can get, so do yourself a favor and listen! There’s a 99.9% chance you’ll find something to love here

The Best Podcast I’ve Ever Found
I don’t list that title lightly. There’s a long list of podcasts I like, and many I hold to the highest caliber, but the HP Lovecraft Literary Podcast ranks as #1. I’ve never before enjoyed content enough to join a Patreon till this podcast. That they provide all 120ish Lovecraft story episodes for free is outstanding, but the vast archive of other weird fiction they’ve covered since is unmatched anywhere. I found it from a random reddit page talking about Lovecraft, and since then I’ve read everything HPL ever wrote (including a chunk of the letters), eagerly listening to Chad and Chris discuss each story afterwards. Once I realized I wanted to keep reading weird fiction, the natural thing to do was to keep listening too, and feel lucky they’ve already covered so many works I want to read. The format (not pointlessly long), the hosts (hilariously nerdy-dad humored), and the analyses (always on point and thoughtful) make every one a jewel. It’ll take me literally years to read through and listen up to the present day episodes, and I can’t wait.

    The HP Lovecraft Literary Podcast
Truly a fantastic podcast for any fan of the weird and horrific worlds of Lovecraft, his circle, and those who influenced them and they influenced. Chad and Chris make a great dynamic duo and their guests often outshine them! There is also a great community built up around this podcast and I definitely recommend the Patreon page. My only point of contention is one they’d find valid: it is two white gen-x guys talking about old, racist authors from the turn of the last century. Chad and Chris do their best to be constructive, tasteful, and informative, but there is only so much they can do.
  • A Dupre
By far the best Lovecraft podcast that exists.
The hosts are knowledgeable and provide useful insight into the life and work of HP Lovecraft. This content is engaging and presented in a way that goes beyond merely rehashing the same old tidbits most Lovecraft enthusiasts are already familiar with. The readers who are invited to read excerpts and bring life to the stories are phenomenal (Andrew Lehman!!!) as are the other guests who make appearances on the show. This is probably my favorite podcast. Well done, gentlemen.

    Good timing
You dropped your episode when I was relistening to color out of space part 2. Long time listener. I really enjoy the show. Stay healthy!

So happy to have found this podcast! The hosts are hilarious and informative and regularly feature stories I immediately turn around and read. A great way to help find your next read and on occasion, note which to avoid.

    a joy to listen to
This is the podcast that got me into podcasts. It's smart, it's fun, it's well researched and edited. They have great guests and readers in to read story snippets. If you were ever interested in HP Lovecraft or weird fiction in general, this is a great place to start.

    Awesome podcast
I love HP Lovecraft and the back and forth these guys have is super funny and enjoyable to listen to. This podcast is a must listen for any scifi/horror literary fans.

    The quintessential Lovecraft Podcast
What a wonderful podcast. It is absolutely a MUST have for anyone like myself who LOVES the atmosphere and style of Lovecraft but gets bogged down in the ponderous prose. The hosts have such a great time breaking down Lovecrafts’ work that it fun and easy to follow. I love the little factoids that the hosts throw in each story, giving insight to when and where Lovecraft was as an author at the time of writing. Well done! -“ In his house at Rlyeh dead Cthulhu waiting dreaming.”

    Making weird fiction fun!
After listening to Chad and Chris for over 8 years, I’m finally getting around to writing a review of this wonderful podcast. Not only are the hosts bright and enthusiastic, they are the equivalent of comedy traffic school for the Cliff’s Notes crowd who always wanted to read Poe and Lovecraft, but got dizzy from their use of language (such as myself). The production values are excellent, the subject matter interesting and the hosts, two old friends, make it all fun for the listeners. I now consider myself a podcast junkie and count the H.P. Lovecraft Literary Podcast among the best out there. P.S. One thing I especially appreciate is how Chris and Chad have so much fun together in spite of Lovecraft’s obvious racism, for which they spare no criticism. @Chad and @ Chris: special request = please do an episode on all of the present day popular fiction IPs that are directly influenced by Lovecraft (Evil Dead, DOOM, QUAKE, Hellboy, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Metallica, South Park, etc.) Thanks, gents!

    Humdrum
I listened to a few episodes discussing Lovecraft stories and the hosts show absolutely no interest in the author or his ideas; showing a complete prejudice toward their subject without recognizing the irony. I have conspiracy theory that just about all literary podcasts are hosted by the same two to four people and none of them have anything to say.

Greatness in a sea of mediocrity.
I had recently found this podcast (within the last year). I don’t generally enjoy binge watching/listening to things but this has been a very pleasant exception to the rule.

    My favorite podcast
Absolutely the best podcast I listen too.

    Feels like talking with friends
Chris and Chad continue to do a great job of having intelligent, fun conversation about weird tales. It feels like listening in on friends having a chat you always want to join.

10 Years of an Amazing Podcast
Just caught up on now 10 years of this amazing podcast in two months. Chad Fifer and Chris Lackey are great hosts. Their discussion on the works of H.P. Lovecraft and other weird fiction writers is very entertaining and funny. Top notch voice actors and experts frequent the show too.
  • KyleStück
    So. Dang. Good.
This show is a TRUE pleasure for my earholes. Its coverage of H.P. Lovecraft stories (originally) and other weird tales (now) is insightful, funny, and often a little strange, which is the way it should be. The hosts, Chris Lackey and Chad Fifer, are a great team and make other bro-mances pale in comparision. They also have fantastic guests appear occasionally, like Patton Oswalt who is a hilarious and knowledgeable addition to the mix. Do yourself a favor and listen to this now—it's friggin tasty, baby.

    Amongst the best
Chris and Chad do one of the best literary podcasts focused on weird/horror fiction from the turn of the century. I've been listening since the beginning and from production values to insight its always been fantastic.

    Where are the Readings 1-6?!?
Let me quote and bring to life our dearest H.P. Lovecraft by saying, "Where TF are the other readings?!" I jest, of course... but only in part? This is my second trip I am taking through this wonderful and entertaining podcast and I wanted desperately to listen to the readings first... imagine my dismay and despair when I failed to locate them!! Please help!!! Post them!! They're vital to the full enjoyment of this lovely podcast!

Introduced me to a whole genre
I'd never really given horror much thought at all until my wife introduced my to this podcast five years ago. Chad and Chris are delightful and informative, and the readings they've produced are first-rate.

    Old stuff is great... however...
Their old episodes were awesome, this used to be my #1 favorite show to listen to during the drudgery that was working at the news paper. Unfortunately, they went to a pay-to-listen model. Yes they thow the occational bone out once a month or so, but it really isn't enough for me to want to stay engaged. Hopefully they'll decide to go do a different model for income in the future.

    Incredibly entertaining
This podcast is great to listen to while doing chores around the house, on your daily commute to and from the workplace, or just chilling in your bedroom. I personally listen to distract myself from the great undulating tentacles constantly slapping at my doorframe. Either way, this is an amazing podcast for anyone who is interested in Lovecraftian content, or just history in general. I highly recommend this podcast to any listener who is interested.

    Geeking Out is Fun
Mixing reverence for Lovecraft with humor that is aware of his faults (both as a writer and a person), this show does a great job of helping me understand Lovecraft better. I thought I new these stories fairly well, but with each episode, these guys teach me something new or just get me to notice something I had missed before. The bantar between Chad and Chris is great, and it makes listening to their show a blast.

    Thank you!
I found this by searching Poroth in my podcast app hoping to find an audio version of T.E.D. Klein' masterpiece (no such luck) but I did land on the episode of these guys discussing it! They're smart, informed, educated, not obnoxious and not boring. That's a hard bundle to wrap into one package with decent audio to boot (not something to take for granted). They discuss Lovecraftian literature or such related. I am a fan and a new subscriber. I hope they keep it going. The only thing I can say is I wish the episodes were longer.

    So I just starting listening...
This podcast is very well done gentlemen! Thank you! Sorry I’m a few years late on the uptake here. Also ... I believe I heard a reference to the Quad Cities! One of my best friends grew up in D-Port and wrote a novel you may like... AE Stueve “Former”

Chris and Chad are undeground stars...yes, in their universe, such polarities can exist. From the first to the future...My favorite podcast forever!!!! (And they can really PERFORM in person, too.)

    Just fantastic
I have been listening to this podcast for *years* and I can't recomend it enough. It's been weird fiction for the past, what, fie years? I'm so happy they kept going.
