Fantastic podcast for my all time favorite show
I just recently found this podcast on a rewatch of my all time favorite TV show Lost. I’ve never found a show since that I’ve liked quite as much. We binged it pretty quickly on this rewatch and I wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye so I started listening to your podcast. I listened to the entire thing over the past couple months as I cleaned my house and crocheted, etc. It is still relevant and you had so many great insights. I was able to relive it again and felt connected because someone else cared as much as I do about this show and what it meant. I can’t believe this podcast ended 10 years ago and yet here it is still living on. Love it!

This Is The Lost Podcast You’re Looking For
It’s currently Jan 2023 and we’ve watched LOST four times (original run, 2012, 2014 and now again 2023). This is a great podcast that is still relevant today and reveals things that we never caught or realized. Thank you.

    My favorite Lost podcast
I’ve listened to all these episodes and most of them twice. This is my favorite Lost podcast. We walks through the episode beat by beat, making nice small insights into the show, especially the performances and plotting. Great use of clips from the show throughout.

Such a great companion to my re-watching of LOST!
I know I’m a little late to the party here, but I’m really enjoying this podcast: it feels like I am discussing the episodes with a smart friend. I’m in the throes of re-watching LOST from the beginning, for the first time since it’s original airing, and first of all...it is SO much better on the second viewing! I went looking for a deeper dive into the episodes, and I’m so glad I found this. Highly recommended!

    Great Addition to Watch Along
I’m really enjoying your Lost podcast! I found it after being a regular listener to your Star Trek: Discovery podcast and you made mention of it in an episode. Lost is my favorite show of all time and have been doing another rewatch and your episode by episode podcast is the perfect addition. I like that you come at it with knowledge of the entire series and putting characters and their actions, mysteries, plot points and more in context of the entire series even if things may not have been intentional at the time. I look forward to continuing on with it. Thank you!

    Still holds up
I have rewatched the show multiple times....and this is my second “re-listen” with Matt. Most podcasts from 8 years ago don’t hold up...this one surely does. It’s a smart and entertaining addition for anyone looking to rewatch the show. Jon B

    Good analysis but.....
This guy knows and understands Lost. His analysis is good and he shows where most of the pieces fit. The issue with the show is that he belabors small points to death. He doesn’t like the character of Jack and he hammers that home every time he mentions him. He doesn’t like the “previously in Lost” prologues and he talks about it on every show. He also has a tendency to objectify women, referring to them as “delicious” or saying how much he enjoys the bikini shots of Kate, Shannon, et al. I sent him an email as feedback and he was a pretty huge jerk in response. Whatever. There’s plenty of podcasts out there. This is definitely one of them. That’s the best I’ll say about it.

    Disagreeing with CheriBunBun’s Review
Matt here, creator of Looking Back at LOST. I’m appalled by the digital vandalism from CheriBunBun’s review, which captures neither the tone nor the content of my podcast. To all else, thanks for the Dharma karma!

Woman-hating host ruins an actually interesting podcast
Wow...this podcast has good moments, but it's all overshadowed by the hosts hatred of women. Some highlights were how uncomfortable it would get when Matt would call girls "yummy" or leer at a woman in a bikini and say "mmmmm" or explain that we don't like the characters for their personality, but for their looks. Wow. That kind of gets disturbing. He also claims how much the audience hates Kate and that doesn't seem to be the case for anyone I talk to. He goes on and on in every Kate episode about how "terrible" she is and even has the audacity to justify sexual abuse of the character. He even goes on to explain how she is a horrible person for caring for someone's baby when she goes missing. It's mind-numbingly disgusting. The only reason it gets an extra star is because some of the other content is actually interesting, but he never talks up one female character unless it's to comment on their looks or how unlikeable they are. I listened to every episode because I am a completist, but I would suggest pretty much any other show.

    Hits the sweet spot
This is an excellent podcast. It gets at the heart of what makes Lost so great - awesome characters. Yes, this podcast discusses the mysteries of the show, but its the emotional journey that guides that discussion. It makes it an excellent companion piece during a rewatch. Highly recommended.

    Awesome podcast
During a Lost rewatch (trying to heal that void) it was great to hear Matt's insight on episodes from a post series end perspective. Definitely a great addition to the Lost universe.

    Fantastic!
My girlfriend and I are in the process of watching LOST. It's my second go at the series and her first. After each episode I tune in to your show for insight and entertainment. Thanks for putting in the time to remember this wonderful show. "We have to go back!"

    Best Lost Podcast !
The most cogent Lost podcast I've heard yet. So wonderful , I want to re-re-watch Lost again !. Great acoustics, too.

    Excellent!
In my view, the best of all the Lost podcasts. Thanks, Matt, for bringing back the intrigue, mystery and joy that is "Lost" - the greatest show in the history of television.

Wish I found this while it was still going on
Absolutely phenomenal podcast that is absolutely worth listening to.

    Greatest podcast ever!
I have listened to the entire podcast and it is awesome. It gets better overtime as the host gets experience. There is one podcast to come and it is out this week. This is the best way to relive the emotions you felt watching the show as it aired. Give us more! Perhaps a looking back at fringe podcast!

    Like Re-Living LOST
There's never been another TV series like LOST. After all these years I just started listening to this podcast and it's made LOST nearly as fresh and wonderful as the first time. Matt's production quality and content are both top notch. Hope it stays available on iTunes until I can get to enjoy every one of his episodes.

    Better late than...
I found this podcast only a week ago, and in that short timeframe it has become one of my favorites. Truly insightful, intelligent, and excellent use of soundclips, a quality product from beginning to end. I only wish I had found it sooner.

    I am enjoying this podcast
I recently finished watching the whole series on Netflix a few weeks ago. I am now going through it all over again with Matt. I am on season two of the podcast. It is great. I don't agree with all the hating on Jack that I'm hearing so far. He was the hero of the show for me.

    Essential Rewatch Listening
I've been making my way through LOST a second time, and was hoping to find some sort of thoughtful podcast where episodes were discussed in the context of the series as a whole. Well, here it is. Looking Back at Lost is an incredibly enjoyable listen; Matt's perfect podcast voice makes for easy listening, and his well-articulated breakdowns of every scene shed light on some of the subtler acting moments, musical choices and shot compositions, whether or not they work, and why. Now, there are a couple curious aspects of the show, the foremost being the choice to start each show with reading Wikipedia's plot recap for whatever episode is being covered. If the show were more loosely structured it would be a fine way to get us grounded, but seeing as the show itself is a recap (albeit with lots of editorial, insight and theorizing thrown in) it's quite unnecessary. I also wish there was more mythology theorizing, but it's clear that Matt is more interested in the characters and their relationships than Dharma or pregnancy mysteries, which is perfectly valid. All in all, however, you won't find a more intelligent LOST-cast out there, though those hoping for an onslaught of Doc Jensen-esque cockamamie theories may find themselves disappointed.

    BEST Post-Lost Podcast
I look forward every week to Matt's recap and analysis of each episode. He has consistently high production quality with just the right number of clips from the show. I didn't think it was possible to learn something new about Lost after all this time -- but Matt has proven me wrong with his fresh perspective and thoughtful insights. I started listening a few weeks ago and have now gone back to the beginning to listen to them all. TOTALLY WORTHWHILE! This podcast makes me miss Lost all over again -- and also remember why it was -- is -- one of the best TV series ever. Thanks, Matt!

    Nice weekly treat
Great Lost podcast and very well structured. Unlike a lot of amateur podcast hosts, Matt has an incredibly professional voice well suited for radio. He does a great job offering his insight on the each week's episode. My only complaint is that his "analysis" of the show borders on simply being an in depth review. I would like to see him push the analysis further, and I say this because I think he can. I'd like to see him take the events of each episode and examine how the actions of the characters reflect, support or challenge the series' major themes. Aside from that one complaint, the show remains a highlight of my week. What a great way to start the weekend!
  • PD1007
    Super good
Nice work here Awesome way to keep show living on and Matt does really nice job tying up loose ends in my head at least with his observations and opinions. Thanks and I look forward to this podcast every week.

    Loving these podcasts!
Loving these Lost rewatch podcasts and the podcaster Matt is fantastic. Even with his hate for Jack :-) I'm now starting on the podcasts covering season 3. Thank you Matt for deciding to do this Looking Back at Lost!

    Great Show!
I've really been enjoying this Lost rewatch with Matt. He is a great host and has some thought provoking insights. One of my big criticisms of most amatuer podcasts is their lack of structure and excessive length. Those podcasts which have a group of people talking for 3 hours (or more!!) about Lost are just a bore. I don't have time nor the interest to listen to anything for that long, not even when they're talking about a show that I love like Lost. I appreciate that Matt has given his show a structure and keeps it relatively tight, usually clocking it in under an hour. Production value aside, Matt is also fun to listen to and helps to make the show feel fresh again as we travel through the Lost time loop one more time. (You could say we are all like Locke's compass, going over the same events again and again.) One note of constructive criticism though. The show is described as "seeing how each episod fits in the series as a whole" but sometimes I find myself frustrated that Matt ends up focusing more on how it felt to watch this scene or that scene for the first time, or he focuses on production glitches and criticism of the show writers and creators. It's not that I don't think these criticisms have a place in the show, I just feel like sometimes that's all he is talking about and I don't see him asking some of the deeper questions that I'm asking myself while listening to the show. The kind of questions and analysis that would better connect the episodes to the larger mosaic of Lost mythology. For example, as the show moves into Season 3 I keep asking questions about Ben being the "leader" of the island in relation to the other things we know now. Like what is his relation to the people at the temple? Is Ben in charge of Dogan at the temple or are they a different group, sort of like other "Others"? Also, we are told Ben's people are building the runway due to a command from Jacob, but in the big picture we know he never was able to talk to Jacob. Ben as usual was just lying about that. So what does that mean though? Obviously the runway project had a purpose in the larger view of the show and Jacob wanted it built, but how did Ben ever get those directives if he wasn't really the Island Protector? I could keep going but you get the point. I just wish the podcast would take a few steps back more often than it does to look at the big picture and to consider the larger implications of what is going on in each episode. But again, kudos to Matt and keep up the good work. I eagerly await each new episode!

    Best post lost podcast
Five stars all the way. When lost ended I figured my podcast listening days were numbered. Most lost podcasts packed up and called it a day. Matt on the other hand picks up where they left off. This is a very smart and honest look at the show as a whole. Not once have I heard fatigue and dread doing this podcast for 35+ weeks (season 3 might change this, harr harr). I look forward to this podcast every Monday. Thank you Matt. Keep up the great work.

    Great podcast!
This is my favorite podcast, I look forward to it every week it is the perfect way to get me through my commute to work.

    Quality over quantity
Matt's show is the only Lost podcast I have heard that has only one host, yet is easily the most informative and entertaining, illustrating that multiple hosts don't necessarily make a better show. Matt has great insight regarding Lost plot points that at least once a week make me think, "you know,I never thought of that." He has great passion for the show and is my one link to being able to relive the show and enjoy a fresh perspective. He has different opinions then mine, but I love comparing and contrasting his opinions with mine. Matt chooses great clips and is honestly interested in feedback to improve his show. Bravo Mr Lafferty.

Looking Back At Lost Is A Pleasure
Matt's great voice and terrific choice of clips of the show LOST take us back in time to remember how we felt while watching this great show. It's always a pleasure to hear the podcast come up on my MP3 player and to see it in my iTunes feed. Thanks so much for this wonderful trip down memory lane with you, Matt!

    Best ever.
Matt is an amazing guy. I could not put my iPod Touch down after listening to his podcasts. I listened to all the episodes and I enjoy them. I mean a fellow Jack hater is always good in my book. I finished the podcasts and I was surprised cause there were no new podcasts. Matt keep up the good work! Love the show. Lost for ever! :D

    Awesomeness!
This is a great podcast, it helps fill the "lost void" up nicely. Thanks, Matt, for taking the time to do the show, whenever I check the LPN, it makes my day to see "Looking back at Lost" on the top of the list!

Exactly what I was looking for!!!!!!!
After being a loyal Lost Fan for years, I found the final season(s), like many of us, to be very dissappointing and couldn't bear the sight of lost or any mention of it for that matter. Now over a year later I've found myself longing to fill the void of not having weekly exceptional storytelling, this podcast is filling it. Matt you are doing an excellent job guiding us back down the rabbit hole!!

    Continuing to Carry The Torch(Flame)
This is an excellent podcast. Matt has a great voice, and doesnt pull any punches, especially when it comes to Jack;) Very high production value, comes out on a frequent schedule, and Matt has yet another way of looking at Lost that gets me thinking about things from yet another angle. Awesome stuff.
