ferasaPrinciples for Martial Arts, LifeWhether you’re into martial arts or not, Jeremy and his guests share deep reflections and real insights about growth and overcoming challenges both on and off the mat. I recently had the privilege of being a guest on the podcast, and it was a very insightful experience. Jeremy creates a very welcoming environment and digs deep to uncover parallels between martial arts, business, and life. I really enjoyed the conversation.

JsblumGreat way to find a community in the martial artsOne of the weird things about training in the martial arts is that because there are so many, the chances of meeting another martial artist of the same style and who shares the same practices you do (that didn’t go to your school or have the same instructor) can sometimes be challenging, especially in some parts of the world and with less mainstream styles. Plus, there can be a lot of petty, unnecessary squabbling between styles that divides, rather than unites us (those of you who remember the style wars in the early 90s when UFC was just beginning may well remember one public example; in some ways, little has changed). All this is ironic, since when it comes to the general public, we’re pretty much all the same. So the great thing about this show (and Whistlekick as a entity in general) is that there is something for everyone, as their mission is to unite rather than divide, question rather than grandfather in, respect tradition but not be bound by it. I have listened to the show for years, not just for the quality of the topics and diversity of the guests, but for myriad ways in which it has provided food for thought and ways to think about and enhance my own practice. Give it a listen! You will find a whole community waiting for you.

mavrickNJA Martial Artists messageJeremy, Thank you for everything you do, coming from someone who never gives reviews, 5 stars I have been listening to the Whistlekick martial arts podcast for many years now… I have enjoyed all of the episodes in different ways. I am able to get at least one memorable thing out of each episode. Sometimes it is from the guests story's and other times its the back and forth conversations between Andrew and Jeremy giving there various opinions. The host Jeremy has a special/natural way of getting a guest to open up about themselves by allowing them to go on tangents…However, just when you think the topic is going to veer one direction. Jeremy realizes something the guest had said and zeros in on it, which redirects the conversation. Many times the guest says “they never thought of it in that way before” and have to take a moment to rethink there answer. I like this because it makes the interview Real, and not just a carbon copy…

DHamm80I’m back in martial arts and this podcast is a big reasonI’ve been wanting to get back into martial arts for over 15 years, but I am finally back in. A big part is Jeremey’s responsiveness to emails that helped me guide into the right topics in the podcast and by having inspiring conversations that pushed my passion to make the jump. He is a great influencer in martial arts and I can’t wait to listen for years to come!

Wordman92Great Martial Arts PodcastI have been interested and involved off and on with the martial arts since I was five. This podcast not only deals with the mechanics, but also the martial arts as a lifestyle. I have not always trained, but the way of life has never left me. This podcast offers much broadly to the listener. I highly recommend it.

JRMFFL531Great Mental TrainingAs a long time fan/student of the martial arts I really enjoy this podcast. I can spend hours talking about martial arts, the different styles, techniques, and meaning behind different movements and concepts. Sensei Jeremy carefully selects topics to discuss that are vital to the marital journey. He invites experts from all over the world to share their teachings as well. Where else can you get this level of insight and instruction for free?!!!!! This podcast is designed to grow your mind so you can grow in your style. I invite you to try 2-3 episodes on topics you’re interested in. You’ll be hooked.

Rolling66Love the showA long time ago I saw your ad in Blackbelt magazine and have been a listener ever since. I train in martial arts only for self defense. Can you interview Col. Al Ridenhour from Guided Chaos? It’s the school I attend here in Kansas City . The practicality and common sense is absolutely the best. Thanks Andrew in KC

Martial Arts StudentListen with CautionI listen to a variety of martial arts podcasts. Unlike others, Whistlekick is openly hostile to what it calls “sport martial arts” (SMA) and grappling arts in favor of “traditional martial arts” (TMA) like Karate or Tae Kwon Do. In reality, so-called TMA’s, in their current iterations, are often decades to under a century old with proud sport aspects and indeed post-date many grappling arts or striking arts too sport-like for the host. The host portrays so-called TMA’s as “no-rule” as though its students weren’t often befuddled by restrictions and enjoyed eye-gouging, throat & groin-pulling melees. Finally, the host somehow brags about both preventing the dilution of TMA’s and himself never having been in a fight. Such odd priorities make such a broadcast cautionary listening for those pursuing self-defense and combat training

DfajitcAmazing and inspirationalI was looking for something to list to while working(I am a truck driver) I’m also a Kenpo practitioner, and recently started taking Tai chi. I thought let me give this a listen after looking at the titles and I am glad I did. It has given me so much to think about. I look forward to all future shows and going back and listening to all of the previous ones.

Monk YunrouThe Leanest, Cleanest, Most FocusedThis is one of the podcasts I enjoy most these days. Wide range of guests, interesting topics, no puffery, good information, always entertaining. I particularly enjoyed the interview with Tom Bisio, episode #98, though there are many good ones!

Kirk-KickerDon't miss this one!!!I'm in my late 20's and only recently became involved in martial arts. This is a great podcast that not only lets you hear from martial artists across a wide range of styles, but also offers advice and insight that helps me stay motivated and encouraged. I have come across a lot of great books and movies thanks to them being mentioned in the interviews. If you are interested in martial arts, even if you don't participate, this is an amazing podcast to subscribe to. I recently finished listening to all the old episodes and I encourage other new listeners to do the same. There is a ton of great content. Thanks for keeping it up! I always look forward to the next show!

Wed TwaffleInspiration in every episodeI began my journey to a black belt in Tae Kwon Do on November 2, 2012. It has given me so many benefits, from stress management to confidence and so much more. Tae Kwon Do has changed my life forever. The more I train, the more knowledge I gain, and the more I seek to learn about martial arts. As a fan of podcasting, I did a search for martial arts-themed shows. I came across this podcast just after episode 3 was released and I have been hooked ever since. Each episode is so inspirational to me. When I'm not training, I'm listening to this podcast. I find so much similarity between myself and many of the guests, helping me feel like I am part of a big family, united by our love for martial arts. I thank you for providing us with these stories, helping us remember that the martial arts journey is not without it's struggles, but the training we acquired through our journey builds our endurance and perseverance, gives us strength, and helps us to become a better version of ourselves with each step.

Toblakai23Good Pod for any practitioner!I study Bagua, and although there isn’t too much about the Chinese arts I still enjoy this podcast very much. I do have one critique though Jeremy….try not to leave too much dead air between questions and answers. Keep up the good work!

BMC1128Awesome!Awesome podcast! Great guests with inspiring stories! Great job by the host, and I am a big fan of the Thursday shows too! Thanks for putting it together!
-
C. RobinsonAwesome interview!Awesome show. I just finished listening to the episode with Cheyenne LaChapelle who in a word is simply amazing. I really enjoyed hearing her martial arts journey which started at an extremely young age. This was perhaps the third episode I've listened to and they've all been wonderful. Me being a non-practitioner (just someone that enjoys quality podcasts) what always strikes me as being special about the martial arts community is just how much it has shaped the person they've become. This show is one of those that you can take something from even if you aren't part of the target audience.

Richard BejtlichAn outstanding companion on your martial arts journeyI resumed training in the martial arts in January, after a 15 year break. This podcast is the perfect companion during the long drive to and from my Krav Maga school. I've enjoyed ever single episode, and some of the interviews have even inspired me to pursue new interests. I love the mix of old-school fighters and younger practitioners. Jeremy always extracts the best stories and advice from each guest!
-

Wahid TannerThe personal stories are excellentI love hearing the personal stories. The grandmaster story took me to a time before I was born and allowed me to experience what it was like back then. The struggles often had nothing to do with martial arts but it was interesting how martial arts made things better.

LibbyTKDGreat Podcast! As a martial artist and instructor, I really enjoy your podcast. The guests are fantastic. The interviews are well done and coordinated. The questions get to some really interesting answers about why/how people started in the martial arts and then finish up with what books and movies the people enjoy. They also introduce us to fellow martial artists we may never otherwise hear about. Keep up the great work!

Dominick R.Simply AmazingI have not subscribed to a lot of podcasts since I don't have a lot of free time to listen to them. This podcast however, is so great that it is one of the main things that I look forward to every week. It has opened my eyes to the bigger picture of the martial arts and the stories are simply amazing. Keep up the good work!

SleeplessnightsA Great Resource for Knowledge SeekersI do a lot of thinking about how my training is affecting me spiritually, intellectually and emotionally. As I increase my general martial arts education by hearing the stories and musings of far more experienced and advanced practitioners; as well as pick up new knowledge about other styles and traditions, I'm also struck that the prevailing theme is that pursuing martial arts training equals self-improvement. Tuning into these conversations helps me affirm my own progress as I struggle forward in my training.
-
