Kevin knows his stuff. Excellent podcast.
There are many Awards podcasts out these days. Some great, some not so great. And the Runner Up is one of the great ones. Kevin is an excellent host. He creates such a warm and welcoming environment for his guests. Kevin’s research and knowledge is so impressive that you would never know he wasn’t around during a big portion of the Oscars. Kevin is so thoughtful and detailed when describing a film or a particular performance. He also is so respectful of his criticism of a particular film or performance. Kevin keeps the show at a high level and never goes for the cheap shot. I always look forward to the next episode.

    Wonderful movie podcast!
I love to listen to Kevin talk movies! His best actress series has introduced me to me many new movies and actresses, especially of the 1930s and 1940s. Love the show!

    Peerless podcast for Oscar completists
This is the one. If you have the luxury of a lifetime’s familiarity with these films you will enjoy these terrific conversations and interesting insights and perhaps come to see old favorites in a new light. Even the races you don’t recall as particularly memorable come to life again with these always erudite, always fun, reflections. Mr. Jacobsen’s enthusiasm for the subject is contagious and his revolving pool of guests are equally engaging.

    I Really Love this Show
I listen to three or four podcasts on one topic - just to get the full 360 of perspectives. And, I love CliffsNotes for books! This podcast is like CliffsNotes for movies! Highly intellectual insights with a very intelligent host and well-rounded guests! I also love that the episodes are bite size - perfect for a short drive, a waiting room or a sink full of dishes! Bravo!

    Too many PREVIEW episodes
I listen to many podcasts and pay for several Patreons once I like a podcast. I find it annoying that the majority of posts for this podcasts are preview episodes for paid content. I feel it should be the other way around.

    Black Lives Matter? Really?
Just looking for good discussion on movies. Got a pitch for the Black Lives Matter movement from the get go. You had to ruin it with your politics. So, adios!

    Essential listening
LOVE Kevin and all he does here. He pours everything into researching and preparing. And it shows. This podcast is essential for any Oscar obsessive, veterans or newcomers alike. Great voice and his guests are just as knowledgeable and prepared as him. A podcast for Oscar nerds made BY an Oscar nerd. Kevin stays feeding the girls and we are grateful.

    Great 2020 Oscar Awards Review
Thank you for the thoughtful, inside the industry, commentary by 3 discussants of the 2020 award contenders, and the Oscar ceremony. Liked especially your pointing out that it is in the September-October window when nominees still up for grabs and the last opportunity for diversity and variety. Here is to the 2021 Oscars being a even stronger International competition.

    Bad first impression
I will likely give this podcast more opportunities, but was really looking forward to the episode on “Tender Mercies,” an underrated classic and one of Hollywood’s finest character studies, and had to quit after 15 minutes of mostly running it down.

    A Must for Awards Junkies
If you're an awards-season addict like me, then you HAVE to listen to Kevin's pod And The Runner Up Is. It provides a unique look at not only the best movies of the year, but some forgotten favorites that slip through the cracks over the years. It's an easy listen and informative too while also being downright charming. An absolute must-hear!

This is for All Movie Buffs
Kevin Jacobsen has put together an excellent podcast where he meets with different guests every week to talk about the one film that probably came closest to winning Best Picture in any previous year of the Oscars. I think the overall structure is perfect that starts with a review of the film, followed by why it didn't win, continues with other films that should've been more in the conversation, and ends with whether or not they agreed with the Academy's decisions. Some of my favorite episodes so far have been their discussions on La La Land, The Social Network, There Will Be Blood, Mystic River, and The Pianist. I highly recommend this podcast for every single movie buff out there.

    Comprehensive and Entertaining
Kevin and his guests give a fantastic look at the Oscar contenders from each year and the film that almost won it all. Not only do they give excellent analysis of the runner-up film, they discuss the Oscar race with such passion and knowledge. For someone like me who loves everything about the Oscars, this podcast is a necessity. It reminds you of all the movies that vied for glory in each year and what might’ve been. Great stuff. Check it out!

    A Great Retrospective
This is just a great podcast. Kevin does a great job of getting great guests as well as putting years into context and remembering almost everything there is to know about a particular year’s Oscar race. Speaking of great guests, Kevin should bring back on that guy who guested on the episode about “La La Land.” I think his name is Charlie or something like that. That guy is really good, funny and handsome too......from what I hear.

    For awards season junkies!
As someone who lives for the Oscars and all things cinema, I love that Kevin has found a way to base an entire show around the questions I personally continue to debate every day of my life...Who deserved to win the Oscar? The answer will forever be subjective but there are new guests who come on to give their opinion, ensuring that the conversations are never stale. Definitely recommended.
